    Male dinker?
Hey all, so I found this male dinker, about 3' long, a guy selling it for $150. He said that he thinks it has some good genetics, and could prove out to be something totally new. I think it looks really cool, but am still new to ball pythons. What do you guys think? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/06/ry7uqyqa.jpg

My opinion is that with no normal is truly normal. There are so many subtle morphs popping up that I think nothing is just a normal. Now looking at your boy, he does look very un-normal like. Pattern is consistent, black is thick and he is very clean. Maybe he is something. It's always fun to mess around with ideas. I say breed him.

Yeah I thought the same, I've never seen a normal like this, so think there is something interesting going on with him. I haven't gotten him yet, he would be in a trade with a couple other snakes. I was just seeing if you guys think he would be a good deal to get. I'm leaning on gettin him, but wanted to get some feedback from some more experienced keepers.

    Hi,

Kind of looks like what I have seen called harlequin - which I don't remember seeing proved genetic.

I like him but I wouldn't say he was worth three times as much as other normal males. It's a gamble really.

How much do you think he is worth? I don't think I'm going to get him, he was wanting $150 or more in the trade, and I don't think I want to spend that much on him, unless he was worth a good amount and I could make some good offspring.

What would you guys say would be a fair price to offer for him? He was telling me 150 was on the cheap end for him..

I have a large "normal" male I have had on craigslist a couple of times for $50. He is very light colored and would make a good dinker of sorts. A couple of bites but no takers. I think I'm probably asking to much, but I don't want to let him go for any less.

Paying more than $50 is frankly getting ripped off. It's a nice normal that's it.

For a male, I wouldn't pay more than $100, and that would only because he's a nice dinker.

If he was a normal that looked totally normal $50.

Agree with top post^^^^^ to add thou; he's a male. So you gotta feed him and get him to breed. Next they breed now you wait for a female baby. Do you see where I'm going? This is gonna be a 3 to 4 year project, you need to decide if your going all the way with this project.

I would pass. That's too much for a normal male.

With all due respect, that's a matter of opinion. How many other subtle morphs out there prove to do crazy things when combined with other morphs. OP if you feel it's worth paying $1,000,000 then don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now do prepare yourself just in case nothing proves out.

I know that a lot of people on here post "what is this" threads and sometimes it's gets a little annoying seeing so many at one time. But truth is that if OP feels it's a project worth chasing, then it's a project worth chasing. It's really up to you.

Well actually I already have a big normal female ready to breed, and I haven't seen this male in person, but I do believe he is almost, if not already, ready to breed. But I think I'm going to pass on him. Even though he is really cool, I personally also think 150 is a bit much for him.. Thanks for all your help guys I appreciate it.

Most of these "dinkers" out there are nothing. It's a stupid way for people to mark up prices on normal snakes. A lot of subtle morphs are really really lame, and shouldn't even exist outside peoples desire to try and prove they did something useful in this hobby and chase some money.. LOL

I think 150 is a bit much myself as well.

However, you don't see too many normals with a nearly complete stripe. And you don't see many that have such continuity in the shape of their.... excuse my newbieness.... flames? Alien heads? To me, it sort of looks like a pinstripe without the color in the right spots.

Is that the only picture you got?

I have a couple other pictures of him. One is of his side, the other is another from up top. That was the best one, but I'll post these too. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/07/6u2evajy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/07/7uryqe9y.jpg

Marking up the prices on normals for to sell it for more is shameful on the seller. But I am all for the buyer buying as long as they know the risks. It's not like it costs me anything for them to spend their money. But to each their own, that is your opinion and I respect it.

Amir from Yellowbellyball.com has a line of genetic harlequins. Maybe you could send the pics to him and ask if it looks like a good prospect? I dunno, just a thought. I think he's in Germany until Tuesday though...

I would take the gamble for $100, but that's me. Really is a matter of opinion.

It's most likely just a normal, but you never know. We tried proving our striped dinker out last year. Got 10 eggs, but none of them really looked like the dad. We are now holding a few of the offspring back to breed back to dad. It's a long drawn out process. If you are up to it...Give it a shot. $150 is a bit much for a normal, but it's not much in the grand sceme of things.
