I bought a female blood python today locally, and I snapped a couple quick shots of her. They aren't all that great because I wanted to leave her alone:

She's a little on the skinny side, IMO, but that should all change here shortly. 8)

    Take care,

Very nice Jen.....but please don't make any more degenerate mutts, ok?

Yeah, hybrids weren't meant to be. Causes a lotta problems. If someone told you they wanted to make an ape-human hybrid you'd throw up and call them nuts. It may look cool and all, but it's not safe. Hybrid haters are a group similiar to venomoid haters.

Yup, and that's a whole other thread, right? Don't worry David, if Bloods and Balls were meant to breed, they'd both live in Africa (or Asia). :)

Grrrr, Now youve gone and done it, I know Im not supposed to get any short tail species until Ive got my masters degree in snake keeping but this is just too much to handle! Thats a beautiful snake Jen, and now in June I will have to get my Borneo short tail. Youve forced my hand.

Send any of your mutts in need of homes this way - as most of them wind up without the ability to reproduce anyway.

    BTW nice blood! Sumatran Red?

    Yup, sure is. :)

I'm sure you already know this, Jen...but I thought I'd mention it just in case- the Reds are the biggest of the Bloods and can reach lengths of up to 8 feet and weigh over 50 lbs.

Yup, don't you remember me coming and asking a bunch of questions? :D I feel up to the challenge of a big blood. And if I'm not, I'll learn to be! The only way to learn is to do it! (besides the countless hours of research I've done)...LOL..But no matter HOW much you read, it doesn't teach you like hands-on experience does.
  • 03-13-2004, 08:11 PM
LOL, I remember now. And I agree with you that hands-on learning is the best way.

    Nice Blood, Jen!
I, for one, would like to own a Ball/Blood hybrid. I think they are sweet looking.

I guess this is open to debate. What about all the different breed of dogs that we have as pets. How is that different from someone breeding balls and bloods?
  • 03-16-2004, 02:14 AM
    JLC
The dogs are different breeds...not different species.
Wolves and dogs make hybrids....and I frown on that as much as I frown on hybrid snakes. Just a personal opinion.

Oh no, not the hybrid debate. I'm out... here comes David! It's all good for me either way. I probably won't participate in it, but I'm way too lazy to debate over it. Even if I do, who would it stop? NOBODY....
  • 03-16-2004, 02:16 AM
    iceman25
So the Ball and the Blood are a different species? If thats the case then I would not personally support such breeding.
  • 03-16-2004, 02:23 AM
    JLC
    Yes, they're different species.

If the breeding definitely produced ungendered animals...like mules...then I would be less put-off by it. But that is often not the case with snakes.

LOL.....You all make it seem like I'm the world's angriest herper or something! :P

I'll leave this one alone for now.....but if any of you would like to further discuss the hybrid topic elsewhere, just let me know. ;)

Was that intended for me David? After looking at your Avatar, I dont wanna get into an argument with you of any sorts; especially if you possess any of the skills that he did
By the way are you for or against such breedings?
  • 03-16-2004, 06:53 PM
Nahh, it wasn't for anyone specifically. And I don't think I'm anywhere near as bad a mofo as Mr. Lee...LOL.

To answer your question, I am definitely not in favor of such hybridizations. Makes no sense to me.....each species is gorgeous in their own right.....I don't see why people always have to screw with things that are just fine the way they are.
