Hurricanes are a pain in the A$$
On August 29 2006, my family and I evacuated Slidell, La for Hurricane Katrina, now exactly 6 years later a Category 1 Hurricane Named Issac hit Slidell early last night and is still going strong.

Its currently storming hard in Slidell but luckily still no floods in my neighborhood. About a mile from where I live there's flooding pretty bad and a good amount of trees fell over.

My snakes are fine without power because it's like 85-90 degrees in this house lol.

Any BP members going what I'm going through?

I'll be posting pics of the aftermath hopefully by tomorrow!

Please keep La, Ms and Fl in your prayers!

Currently just getting the outer bands here in central ms but I have 2 friends from Biloxi crashing on an air mattress in my living room. They received notification from their neighbor their house in currently about 2 foot deep in water.

One of the reasons why I DON'T miss Florida. Though I do miss the hurricane parties :D

You and everyone down that way are in my thoughts.

Tampa prepared for it and all we got were some vicious drizzles and a few tornados. Now obviously there was some damage from the tornados, and due to an influx of rain recently a little flooding when that big outer band looped through...(we did get some intense rain during that). Some of my family farther south lost power, and there were some down trees but all in all it was kind of pathetic. I was hoping for some much more intense weather to justify a hurricane party. We just didn't feel right doing it when there were just a bunch of "scary" whitish gray clouds and and "horrible" gusts of maybe 15-30 mph. Lol. Nothing like we prepared for. But of course, it seems like every time I actually prepare thoroughly, they change course. :/ Not that I'm complaining...but I'm fond of Tropical Storms. While they can cause damage, they are also pretty to see. Lots of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain and wind.

FYI - Katrina actually hit on August 29, 2005. It was 7 years ago not 6. I know because I'm from Metairie and now live in St. Bernard. I won't forget that date. I'm currently evacuated in Baton Rouge though.

I am in Milton Fl, a little east of Pensacola. It didn't get too bad here, some rain and a decent amount of wind and a couple tornadoes and that is it!!! I am so happy it didn't hit anywhere as hard as Katrina OR Ivan did!!!!

I love how some of you talk about a tornado likes it's no big deal.

:( The entire Gulf Coast must be suffering terrible PTSD right now.

So, in Arizona, we typically don't have basements? And my friend who lives in the Midwest is horrified: "But where do you go during tornado warnings?" Well, see, we just don't get a lot of tornados in Arizona. "But... but where do you go during tornado warnings?" No, see, we just don't get them. Practically at all... she just can't process that.

I think it just comes with living in that area of the country. A tornado is nothing to them, yet if they got an inch of snow or some black ice then the state would probably shut down lol.

Answer: Outside to figure out what those weird sirens are...and to see if you can see the funnel if it's moving north of you.

But really, the reason the reaction to the tornados has been less than expected is mostly because they were very small and short lived. And most of them didn't even hit anything. For instance, there was a waterspout in the bay of Tampa right by the RNC...but it never hit land and didn't cause any damage. There was also a touchdown by my apartment, and while that was unnerving, I was just contemplating bagging up my snakes and cat () and taking them to the bathtub with me. Then the newscasters informed me that it was moving north...so I went outside. :P

Also, tornados have a relatively small area of effect as opposed to the possible severity of a hurricane. Unlike tornados, hurricanes stick around for hours and cause all kinds of damage...if they pack any sort of power that is. Tornados are kind of terrifying though because they come up fast and you don't get much time to react. Had any of them been severe, we wouldn't be making light of it. But as it stands we got baby tornados and compared to the flooding and other damage we were expecting from Isaac, it really seems a bit pathetic.

As to snow...Ha! You are totally right. People can't hardly drive on a flat, dry surface. I'd hate to see Floridians attempting to drive in snow. They are stupid enough when it rains! Ugh!
