whats your next snake
Did anyone see it where this guy is trying to catch a King Cobra using dead Ball pythons  :x I hope that he did not kill them for this purpose :(
-
i missed that one. i usually don't miss anything on animal planet. damn.
-
It was really upseting to see him use our pythons as bait. Could he not have used a rat or something.
-
what the hell was he doing using a bp as cobra bait anyway? if he was in miami, it was obviously a captive cobra... i've heard of cobras eating all sorts of stuff in the wild, snakes included, but i have a feeling the owner of the cobra wasn't feeding it bp's.
-
This wiseguy who lives in the outskirts of Florida had three snakes escape on him. On regular cobra, a spitter, and a King. I dont think this clown should be owning snakes in the first place much less venomous and magnificent ones as the Cobra. As for why the snake expert was using Balls to catch a King, I have no clue. Must have a few screws loose or something!
-
Well, Kings do eat other snakes and the balls might have already been dead from bad shipping or RIs or something.
-
Actually...from what I've read, it's not that uncommon for people to buy dead bp's to feed to their kings. Hundreds of them die in every imported shipment and they are sold off for a couple bucks each at king food. Not a pleasant thought...but then again, most of the whole predator/prey thing IS usually unpleasant.
-
Wow this has taken a good while
even if they buy dead imports...its still wrong. thats horrible husbandry. do you buy dead, parasite filled rodents? no. thats craziness. also, i doubt hed lure out a cobra with food. it was probably stressed from trying to be captured. but then i didnt watch the show. did it work?
-
That's a good point, Mike, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe a long freezing process kills the parasites before they're used as food? The next time I see anyone discussing that fact, I'll bring up that question about husbandry and parasites.
-
Freezing definitely DOES kill the majority of parasites and harmful bacterium in feeders. Also, King Cobras are almost completely ophidiophagic, so I doubt he'd show any interest in mammalian prey.
-
Watch the episode tonight if you get the chance. A large pythons supposed to be on the loose, eating all the neighborhood cats  I wonder what the guy is going to use as bait this time

I've already seen this one. IIRC, it's a burm that's completely docile and a bunch of idiots overreacting. :P
-
I watched Jeff Corwin last night, and him and his friend were rescuing a huge boa constrictor imperator, in a pathetic tiny aquarium, that some person abandoned in their old apartment when they moved! The snake was completely docile (could be because it was wintertime) and looked well fed, but HOW can some moron abandon a snake in a cold NYC apartment??? Sometimes I just hate people.

I saw it too. Man people are cruel sometimes!

ya i saw that me and girlfriend were like &%*&%^ (^*&^ but that king cobra was awesome! did u see last night the 12ft albino burm... that was one nice snake also
-
My wife saw the one about them catching the escaped Burmese that was chowing down on neighborhood cats and dogs. As she recalls the Burm was about 12 foot, and had escaped from a rather flimsy outdoor enclosure. When they returned the snake to the owner, it sounds like they didn't even chew the guy out for not taking proper confinement precautions.

I saw that one also, Jeff was obviously pissed, and said this snake should not be in an apartment in brooklyn,it should be free in the wild.
That coment made me feel a little guilty even though I know Im doing my best to keep my snake happy. :(
-
I don't think Jeff meant any harm towards those who keep snakes....he himself has a collection of snakes.
-
Really? I watch that show all the time but never knew that. It's obvious that Corwin loves him some herps though - he seems to be one of the only people on animal planet not focusing on crocs or dinosaurs haha. Is there any way to see his collection?
-
I'm not sure if there is a way to see what he has, but I remember one show where he was talking between clips and had his large albino Burm with him and was talking about how he has always had snakes at one time or another and his first snake was a Boa Constrictor.
