What temps do you have your thermostat set to?
As the title states what temps do you have your thermostats set to, to achieve the perfect hot spot temps?
I am mainly asking regarding Racks.
-
My DIY rack is set to about 98.5, my RBI rack is set to about 101.
Johnsons on my DIY rack, Herpstat on my RBI rack.

What thermostat are you using also?
-
RBI sweater box rack-94.5 for a 90-91 hotspot
GTP tub-88 for a 88 hot side
40gallon breeder-94 for a 92 hotspot(under substrate)
-
AP 10 tub rack with heat able. VE-200 set to 96 for a 87-88 deg hotspot.
-
Thats a question I have wondered about too. I am using a ve100 on a diy rack with 11" flexwatt setup for backheat. I have been keeping it set to 92 but it seems a little low. Does anyone know if it needs to be kept warmer for backheating?

How warm is the hot side of the cage? Back heat isnt my preference.

Re: What temps do you have your thermostat set to?
I set mine at 96 to get 92-94 depending on the time of day.

I was logging in to ask this same question...
I have an AP eco. rack with a herpstat set at 90.5 to get a hotspot of 85..I am currently following Justin Kobylka's schedule so I have my hot spot at 85 right now.

My hot side is still sitting around 88. I know there is probably already a thread on this, but is there a particular reason for you not preferring back heat? For me it was a matter of being the easiest method to set up in the rack I built.

Bc you have to set the tstat higher. Running the flexwatt hotter and alot more heat probably gets wasted. And i feel like itd be harder to keep a hotspot with backheat too.

Re: What temps do you have your thermostat set to?
Interesting thread so I figure I'll chime in. I have a 40 gal glass breeder. I have a Herpstat II. UTH is set at 94.6 which gives me a 90-92 degree hot spot on the warm side depending on whether we have the AC on in the house or not. I have an infrared bulb for ambient temps set at 83.5 which gives me 80-81 for ambient tank temps.
Humidity is about 55% or more depending on shed cycles.

Good to know, so it is a big eNough difference to be worth the extra time hooking up the belly heat?
-
Hmm. I guess I'm doing something wrong. Lol I have my t-stat set to 80 for an 84 degree hot spot. It's about 86 between the tub and heat tape, and 83-85 above the pine.
I have my heat tape snaked through the rack, and my t-stat probe is on a part of the heat tape that isn't under a tub. <--I think that is why, but it's working great.

The temperature I or other set there t-stat at really does not matter, what matter is the temp YOU need to set YOURS at. ;)
There are a lot of thing that come into play such as ambient room temp, whether the rack is enclosed or not, tub used, substrate used, temps YOU want to achieve etc.
You need to decide the temp you want to achieve and based on that play around with your t-stat to see what it needs to be set at to achieve that temp.
I have t-stat set as high as 98 to achieve a 88 hot spot just like I have t-stat that are set at 85 and to achieve a hot spot of 88, depends on the rack, room etc.

Re: What temps do you have your thermostat set to?
On my rbi rack I have a very old Herpstat tstat, and I have it set at about 99 degrees so I can get a 89-90 degree hotspot. But on my homemade 11 tub rack I use a Zoomed rheostat thingy (not sure what its called but it has a temperature set with the temps written on it.) but anyways its set to 95 degrees for a 90 degree hotspot at the top like 5 and like 88 degree hotspot closer to the bottom.

It does not matter what the little knob is set to. It matters what the tub temp is. A temp gun is your best friend. My temp sensors mount 1/4" above the bottom of the tub.... they came with some gizmo to mount the to the tub floor and thats where they sit. Whatever tub has the temp sensor in it is just for that... the temp sensor. I set that tub up just like the others in the rack... aspen, water bowl, etc, except no snake. My room is 82F ambient. Thermostats all set to 88F and all 3 racks have a hot spot of 90-92F. Some have 3" flextape and others have 4". Some racks have 41qt tubs while others have 8qt tubs.
One well known breeder told me to give my bp's a 6-10F range from hot to cold with the hot side 90-92F and to occasionally check the actual body temp of your snakes. He said they will regulate themselves to around 85-86F body temp given a decent range of temp hot to cold side. I've been checking the last week or so and darn it.... they're most all sitting at 85F body temp :gj:

My DYI melamine rack holds temps pretty well and its set to 92 for a 90° hotspot.
My hatchling rack from C Serpents is set to 91 for a 89-90° hotspot.

Mu tubs have lil feet, and my rack is open style.. So 107.6 is my setting. Gets me where i need to be

I have my rack hitting the perfect hot spot of 89-92. I was just wondering what others were having to have theirs set to. I just found it a little odd in my new rack that I had to crank my herpstat1 to 98 degrees to reach it.
Using a RBI cb70 3 tub rack in 74-77 room temps.
But I did discover that my ceiling fan was causing the issue. By turning off the ceiling fan the hot spot increased temps. So I moved the rack to a room without a ceiling fan.

Ball pythons use heat for digestion. Their belly is where that takes place. I've read enough care sheets to know that's the expert consensus (source)
Heavier bodied snake = belly heat

My Sentec Racks are set at... (back heat)
41qt rack - set at 93.2, hot spot reads 89.5
12qt rack - set at 92.7, hot spot reads 89.5
6qt rack - set at 93.4, hot spot reads 89.0
Powerhouse Display PVC Enclosures (belly heat) - set at 91.7, hot spot reads 89.5
Ambient air temperature in our snake room is 78 degrees.
