NARBC Pick-Ups...and an interesting story....and a question about thermostats
OMG. My first expo was the NARBC in Arlington today! I had an absolute blast. I was very good and brought cash only and did not even bring in my credit/debit card so I wouldn't spend more than I had. I had the intention of picking up a spider female and an anery motley het amel corn snake.

My first purchase was what I believe to be a Miami phase corn snake. She was sold to me as a male, but when I got home and popped and probed her, she is definitely a female! My mother (who HATES snakes) convinced me to buy her. I won't breed her unless I get another Miami phase male since they tend to wash out colors in their offspring. She is mainly just a pet. She doesn't have a name yet, but here she is:

I also picked up an anery motley het amel corn snake boy. He is going to be paired with my snow motley and my bloodred (to try and prove out her PH amel). I've been having this hunch that my snow motley was a female but I didn't have a small enough probe to sex her with. I bought one today at the expo and sure enough, she's a female! Her name has been Severus, but I might change it to Tonks...we'll see. Anyway, the male anery I bought (I've named him Travis) will be bred to my girls when they are all old enough. Here he is:

And finally...the main reason I went to the expo: a spider female. I have named her Charlotte because of Charlotte's Web (Charlotte was the spider). She will be the mother of my future bees/killerbees. She's a small 59g right now but I hope to see her gaining weight very quickly! Here she is:

All my new babies have been situated in their new quarantine room. I will also be getting me a new thermostat for in there. Right now she's on a hydrofome and the corns on on a dimer until I can get my new thermostat in. Which would yall recommend? Ideally, I would love one that can hold two different temperatures.

I thought boas had cute mustaches, but that one is awesomely cute...:gj:

The only multi-zone thermostats that I know of are:

    -Herpstat 2
    -Herpstat 4
    -Vivarium Electronics 300X2

Who did you get your spider from?

Really good looker and cute mustache!

I picked up a Male Pewter from Brian at BHB. He gave me an almost 25% price cut on him!

Glad you had fun! I was there Saturday with my GF. We made the drive up from Houston...left at 5am to gas up and get breakfast and get up there before the doors opened...and then made the trip back leaving shortly before they closed the doors.

Um...not trying to be a jerk here but she can't ever be a mother to a killer bee. She can mother a bumblebee no proba but in order to make killers, both parents need to have the pastel gene in them. Lovely spider tho.

He's gorgeous! I got miss Charlot from Mark Baily. There was a tie between her and another one. The only was a little bit brighter, but when I got the price on her, she was exactly in my budget! Most spider females her age were going for $200-$250 and I got her for $150. I was very happy with her! I may be new to ball python morphs and how each one is supposed to look, but I liked how she looked. The breeder also said she has virtually no wobble and eats like a champ. How could I say no?

When I was talking with Sam from BHB, I alsmost got talked into another corn...but I convinced myself otherwise. I almost bought a t-shirt from them...but they didn't have my size. I'll just order one when they get their new shipment in xD

We drove up from Houston too. However, we went up last night to spend the evening with my sister who goes to UNT. We got up this morning and were there when they opened and we left around 2 or so.

My spider is also named Charlotte! Lol. Stunning spider you picked up! She is really nice looking. Clean pattern, minimal spots, cute moustache!

Very nice pickups! I am saving up a big chunk of change to blow at NARBC Tinley in October.

And yes...I know she can be a grandmother to my killer bees. my brain just got ahead of myself. Seems to be doing that tonight. I'm excited and tired xD She will be bred to my pastel boy that I'm getting and probably to a super pastel that I produce down the road so I can get some bees. I will probably hold back a bee male to breed to my pastel female to make some killer bees.

Sorry for the HUGE typo! I've been on little sleep for the last few days because I've been so excited about the expo. My apologies!

The other spider I was looking at had no spots and she was a little bit brighter. However, this girl had the "white sides" that you see on spiders whereas the other did not. So I picked her instead. If I had the money, I probably would have picked them both up!

Thank you! He was the best Male Pewter I saw at the entire expo...and when the doors opened at 10am on Saturday...he was on hold for me by about 10:01! Hahah! I went and walked around to think it over and whatnot and to look at other breeders to see if they had a better one...but nothing came close to what I was looking for. Brian had the epitome of what I was imagining the male pewter to look like that I wanted to buy! He gave me a great deal (priced at 400 and he willingly went down to 325 for me so I could still buy gas for the return trip and food for this week hahahahaha! Naw, just kidding. I spent a good while talking and chatting with him about my future breeding ambitions and how I really wanted to produce Sterlings with my Pastel girl and make my next ball a female spider or bumblebee to make Pewter Bees and such. I really like the Cinnamon gene and he set me on the right path with a great male for a great price. I am really thankful to him for his time and advice. I can't wait for a few months down the road when I get my pastel a lil bigger and this male ready to breed. It's gonna be really really fun to see what they produce for me! :please:Sterlings:please:

Where in Houston are you from? I am in the NW side in the Willowbrook/Spring area right off of 249.

Brian is SUCH a nice guy! He was busy talking but I did get a chance to chat with him for a little bit. I mainly talked with Sam and Chewy and they both seemed interesting in giving me hints on what to produce with my bees that I will be making. I hope you get some sterlings from your group! I saw some of those at the expo and my jaw literally dropped. They are gorgous!

I am in Cypress...so VERY close to you! I live right off of Louetta and 249. I'm also equally close to 290.

Lol I think if we took a poll on female spider bp names the number 1 would be charlotte. My girls name is charlotte too. Your girl is a looker for sure. Congrats on the new pick ups. Im ordering my pewter male on Tuesday and won't get to see him for two weeks because of my work schedule. Really wished there was a big expo near me. :( but probably saves me a bunch of cash. Lol

Thank you! I am very proud of her! Now...next step: eating F/T for me. She was eating live...so I hope she makes the switch easily. I should probably NOT go to expos...I came back with 3 snakes and all kinds of accessories!

HAHA funny story happened to me today. So I went to Pets and Reptiles Select (where I buy my live feeders) which is on Jones Road a few minutes east of 290. Anyways...I got a small rat for Bella, my 1000g pastel...I put the rat in and it just stood there paralyzed and dead still...not blinking or twitching at all...

Anyways, Bella comes over to it from behind and starts sizing her meal up and smelling it up good...and she moves to hover over it and then swings around to the front side...the entire time the rat just stands there frozen still! Bella then thinks it must be dead or something and just casually opens her mouth and clamps down on the rat's face/nose to begin swallowing it...well the rat snaps back to life and lets out this GIANT squeal...Bella bodyslams the rat, throws a coil around it...and that was that! It was pretty frigging funny to watch!

Sounds like it! I wonder what got into the rat! I need to go pick up my girls some rat pinkies or fuzzies...last time I got some they didn't have any 15ish gram rats so I had to get little rat pinkies.
