Even an average camera can take really great pictures. The biggest factor in getting decent pics for me is getting proper lighting. A lot of us use light tents for this reason. There is a sticky in the "Pictures" section that explains how to make one and they make all the difference.
I use a cheap Sanyo VPC-E2100. It was only about $150 from Wal-Mart and it does a great job if I do my part.
I use a Canon EOS Rebel T3. :) It is awsome and is on the cheaper end of the scale for Photography-esque cameras. (I'm not sure if mine would be considered a DSL or what...) It was about $500 something.
Here is a photo I took the other day with it. :)
KTyne, I saw that series you post the other day. Those photos came out really nice.

I just use an old GE something ... :D I dont even know what it is exactly just that it was $99. I bought a photo tent on Amazon for around 50 shipped. It works ok for getting the lighting right and then you can adjust the settings on the camera to improve it. I dont touch any of my photos either and I would like to get a better camera but cant bring myself to spend a whole lot. Heres a couple pics I took from my outdated camera that I think turned out ok: http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...l/spnrblst.png http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...ll/Enchi_1.png

I have an Olympus. Don't remember the model, but I got it a year or two ago. It was an upgrade from a basic point and shoot, as there are tons of settings I can tweak. I think the light tent makes a huge difference in photos. Probably more so than the camera itself. I really need to make one.

I don't know photography very well, so I use a light tent with photography lights and a pretty plain camera. My camera is a Sony Cyber-shot 8.1 mega pixel camera. I think it may be time to upgrade that.

Yeah you do for when your new sweet enchi gets on the ground and you can give that super hot bumblebee a decent photo shoot that will do it some justice! :D

Re: Camera's
A simple point and shoot can take brilliant photos.
In response to someone asking if theirs was a DSLR; if the lens comes off and can be changed, and it is digital then it is a DSLR.
If it is warm enough outside then don't bother with a light tent, just use some white cardboard or other suitable backdrop and shoot in the shade on a bright day; this will avoid the shadows you often see with a light tent which isn't tweaked properly with the lighting. You also often see bright spots and dark spots with incorrect lighting. Outdoor shade shots will be clear and smooth. I will post a photo shoot next month when I have time showing the differences.
You can even get really good photos with a suitable cellphone, unfortunately not with my crappy blackberry though :P

Yeah, it might happen this weekend. I was reading the light tent thread over again today. Went so far as to make a list of what I need. Just gotta find time to hit Lowes, and the fabric store.....:)
