breeding question

I have 2 females 1 is 1500 grams she laid eggs back in march and the other is 2200 grams and she laid back in april how long should i wait to start breeding again next season or should they be ready at the end of September thank you

Well I think anything in September would be a bit too soon, whether that is cycling or breeding. I wouldn't even start cycling until later in the year. Check out this link from Jkobylka Reptiles.

I think if they laid at that time, you can get them back to weight and breed this coming season without an issue-- if they get back to weight that is. Females will often eat during cycling and breeding anyway, so you shouldn't have to worry if you're a bit short on weight.

I weighed both of them today and that's what they both weighed in at so they are both up to weight i just wasnt sure how long to give them before breeding again like i said though i wouldn't start introducing the males until the end of September early October

the breeding cycle that a female goes thru can change. not always the same time of the year. if you feel they have good weight for their length. it won't hurt to try and place a male with her. watch to see if she tail wags. one thing to remember, if you have a strong breeding male. he might lock her even if she's not ready. I use an ultrasound, but there are also signs to look for, plus some also feel for follicles. I say go for it. no reason not to.

Have you bred them 2 years in a row? I like to give my girls a year off after 2 in a row. Breeding them can be hard on their bodies and health and I've heard it can shorten their lifespan if they are bred too much.

no ladt year was the first year they had bred and my first Year also so i wasn't sure how long in between breedings but thank u for the comments

I have NEVER seen a male able to lock a female without her consent, he may try all he likes, but if she doesn't want it I don't care how big the male is, from my experience, he aint gettin it :gj:

Yes they both eat every week dont miss a meal my 2200 gram female lets me now in the middle of the week that she is hungry when i give fresh water she thinks im her food sometimes lol i was thinking about starting to introducing the males around the end of September to early October and hoping the rest of my females get up to size by the end of the year i got a pastel and 2 het ghosts that are sitting in at around 900 grams each will post pictures when i can get my camera working thanks for all the help everyone that's y i always come here with my questions

I would take September to feed them very well before introducing a male.
I offer at least 2 times a week if not 3 times a week, small rats to my big girls, and they are usually very willing to take the extra meals during this pre-breeding time.
Proof is in the pudding, no slugs from any female that eats really well during the feed up period.

I continue to feed up in October also, some/most of my big girls will take 10 to 12 meals a month during those 2 months.

I use an ultrasound to see follicle size, I will sometimes place a male in with a female that has 6mm follicles. she's nowhere near ready to breed, but trying to just simulate her. she will show no interest in breeding ( moving around her tub with her scent glands out ) next morning they are locked. other males nothing will happen. the best time to start placing a male with a female is 12mm to 15 mm follicles. my male clown is a very strong breeder thats the cb70 racks will move slightly and you can hear him banging around from outside the snake room. if the rack is a rockin' don't come a knockin' :gj:

I even heard of male bp's locking other males. never witness this

My rule of thumb is as long as they are back up to their pre-lay weight plus a little extra, I will start breeding them as soon as breeding season starts back up.
