I usually just drown it with Wasp Spray and the whole nest is caput.

Wait until late evening just before dark to spray. That way most of them will be "home" and therefore will be disposed of and will not just build another nest. Good luck.

In my experience, the very best wasp spray is literally just dawn dish soap, or whatever brand you use, and water in a spray bottle. Kills them DRT. (dead right thar)

Well, a lot of folks have other animals in and around where wasps and yellow jackets usually end up making their nests and really don't want chemicals getting sprayed and wind blowing it around to where it can reach other animals so I thought I would throw in my two cents.

It is safe and cheap and VERY effective.

Well that isn't very environmentally friendly, now is it? :P

OP, those are paper wasps. They aren't usually aggressive, although they certainly can and will sting if you actively provoke them. They actually pack quite a punch compared to yellow jackets, hornets, European wasps and honey bees. Unless they are in a high traffic area and run the risk of being provoked, I would leave them alone. The ones you have to watch out for, in my experience, are yellow jackets. They are extremely aggressive, especially later in the year when they are readying up for winter and they will attack without provocation and actively seek you out.
