Northern Blue Tongued Skink

This is my new bts Reaper! I have a lot of taming to do lol. It's a baby, born 6/29. Its a CB. She cracks me up because she has no teeth really so when she bites it's just gums lol

Awww!! Was yours a little nippy when you got it? If so how long did it take for it to tame down? Right now he/she (I've just been saying she but who knows) has like no teeth but they are growing in real fast. I've noticed if I hold my finger still she will put her mouth around it and lightly chew on it, I'm wondering if she is teething...I haven't read anything about skinks teething but I'm guessing if they are starting to grow in its painful and that could be why she is so pissy.

Ours was very tame, the previous owner/breeder had done alot of handling prior to us getting him. I can tell you that once the teeth are in and they are adult sized (the skinks i mean) they have some strong jaws. Just for fun was hand feeding one time and my finger got in the way, pretty good hold they have. :O
Not sure about teething, i guess that's possible?? Maybe the little bugger is just having some fun with you, play time!

I think if it wanted to latch on it would. The breeder said that it was handled, but then again Reaper is just over a month old so I'm sure it just needs to get settled in and use to me. I just hope that happens before all the teeth grow in lol

Just handle them regularly and remember to not put them down or back in cage if they do bite, as that reinforces their idea of 'bite = get put down'. Though BTSs being so friendly, I can't picture that as the cause for nipping. Maybe they just want to test you and see who's really the boss? :D

At any rate, have fun with the little one, and over time they should calm down. :D

Sounds like my Bearded Dragon - that one in 100 that cops an attitude. Hopefully your little one will drop said attitude, unlike my beardie who never did and got traded. (Don't feel too bad for him tho, he went to a great home and I got my first ever BP in that trade)

It seems to be calming a little bit every day :) those teeth are really starting to grow in tho so I hope it stops nipping soon lol

I've had my eye on BTS for a while now and I hope I can get one reasonably soon ;).. Love yours though!

Well little Reaper shed and seems to be the same as when he was shedding. I'm now starting to hand feed and that is helping A LOT! I've also been doing a lot of reading and most people are saying it takes about 2 months to tame down babies.

Good to hear the hand feeding is helping. :D Tame the savage beast with food if not music. ;)
