Field Trip??

Would anyone be interested in finding a day when we can get together and take a "field trip" to the National Zoo? There are a few of us around the DC area, or within a nice day's drive. Wouldn't it be fun to meet some forum folks face to face? Or we could find some other place to meet and enjoy, if the Zoo doesn't appeal?

I think it's a great idea, but it would have to be an overnight trip for us. DC is a four-hour drive from us. Once the weather stabilizes, say in April or May, I'd love to take the kids back the the zoo. It's been about 6 or 7 years since we've been there. Are there any big herp shows around there in the spring? That might be another option.

If we time it right we could hit that big one in Manassas or Chantilly. Anything to stay outside the beltway lol.

I'm headed to Daytona the year after this.

I'll check the dates on the shows. That's a good idea, too. Smynx and Smulkin can make a weekend of it hitting the show AND the zoo! :) And yeah...I was thinking along the lines of April or so to pull this off. I'll see when the shows are.

Oh great and honorable Godfather....I was also thinking about suggesting a Road Trip to Daytona...to see how many of us might be able to get there. I wonder if it would be feasible to share expenses for a condo or something? I'm really hoping to drive out there with my daughter, but don't know for sure yet.

Northern Virginia Reptile Expo is having a show on May 8th. How does that sound?

Alrighty!! I'll start gathering ideas on meeting places and things we can do in addition to just hanging out at the show (like dinner or lunch out someplace)...or maybe an extra day at the zoo with Smynx and whoever else wants to go!

I've never been to Daytona, but since we're moving to Alabama this summer, we'll be close enough to make a nice drive of it and I'm really hoping my daughter and I can go. Besides...except for being stuck in the Miami airport for seven hours, I've never seen Florida!

And yes...with all our digital cameras, I'm sure we'll get a few pics! :mrgreen:

Excellent! They hold the show once a month at UAB, so we can just pick whenever is most convenient.

What's UAB? And how far is it from Montgomery? Are you going to try and go to Daytona in August? (I think it's in August, right?)

University of Alabama, Birmingham. It's held in the student center, which I managed to find okay. Birmingham is a straight shot up I65 from Montgomery, probably an hour and a half drive. I wish I were going to Daytona in August, but with me still trying desperately to buy a house for us to move into come June, I doubt I'll have the funds to do it this year. Maybe next year, though, especially if we don't try to stay IN Daytona.

We're planning to buy a house this summer, too...so my chances of going to Daytona are anything but certain. But I'm gonna try real hard.

Good luck to you on the house. At least the market in Montgomery should be in your favor. I'd love to go to Daytona, but I think a trip to Birmingham is a lot more realistic this year, especially for 3 on the pay of 1. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you get to go, tho -- it seems to be like Herpers' Carnival. :)

14-15th of august? my brithday is the 17th, what a birthday present. I am definetley going and since i am so close I can make arrangements for anyone if they need them.
