New colour to me. (Satin gold brown)
Hi, cleaning day for me today, and was amazed at the colours of my new rats. Last litter I had those "American Blues" or close to it. Here I have some satin gold/brown colour. I hope the colours stay with them, as I really dig this look. Not sure if they have albino eyes yet, as they haven't even opened yet. I tried searching through google (off one search), and no luck. Anyone know the proper name for them, or is it just "fancy rats"? Cheers

Thanks very much. Are these rare, and what would be a common selling dollar be on these? I think I have 3, one with small patches or blotches on his head.
-
It's a recessive trait, we feed as many blues, Siamese and other colors as we do blacks...
When I sold pet rats I sold all colors at the same price.

If I'm able to get an extra $5 for a rare colour (which the local stores may or may not have) I'll try. Not a huge city here, so maybe I can get some more for it. :D

Maybe, every area is different, can't hurt to try.
My area is the pet rat capitol of the world I think, not much is rare here except dwarf and minks and a few other harder to make/get genetics.

I think it depends on what's common and uncommon in your area.
In my location, siamese are rare. Minks are everywhere. And the thing about siamese rats, most will loose their baby color and molt to the typical point markings (like the siamese cat). So they may or may not keep those patches on their heads. I have a siamese girl who was born tan hooded, then faded to siamese later. But all of her siamese offspring look typical solid gold brown (like yours).

there is really no ads for special rats....some double rex, a few give aways. I know my local pet store takes trades, which works for me as well. :-D

Jerry's good!
I wish we had cool rats like that around here!!! I don't have that cool of rats, but I have the coolest rats in the area, no one breeds or likes pet rats in Iowa :(

This thread isn't helping. Now I want pet rats again, and I don't have the roooooom.
Ugh, I miss having pet rats. Beautiful babies :)

Those babies aren't Siamese. They don't have dark tails. :P

Without the dark tails, those would be beige babies.

Yeah until I seen these last pics they looked Siamese, but they are beige or champagne in all probability.
Beige is a red eyed dilute of a black rat, Red eyes dilute the coat color of rats changing them to lighter colors
Champagne is a black rat turned to a light color by the pink eye dilute.

Himalayan is half albino half Siamese and I believe have red eyes.
That looks like a pink eyed Siamese dumbo rex
-
Probably wrong, but that looks himalayan to me? I have 3 pink eyed himalayan.

I only asked because I wasn't 100% sure if she was Himalayan or Siamese. She had darker points when she was younger that faded. And according to the AFRMA site, Himalayan's look almost like PEWs because their points are so light or non-existent??
Himalayans are such a mystery to me... hahaha

Siamese have a color to their coat, typically a light creamy color and darker points in general.
But a lot of poorly bred Siamese have lighter points, I tried to get all of my hold backs from black rats.
Himi's are white like a PEW.

Oh. Ok.
I'm pretty sure that Dumbo Rex girl I asked about earlier is a Himalayan then. She's much more white than my siamese, which are cream. She looks almost like my PEW Dumbo Rex.

Himis are my favorite pointed rats. My first pregnant female was a himi. Mind you she produced 10 healthy agoutis but still. :D

Mother looks Agouti, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they are Fawn. Which is RED Agouti. :)

Himalayan rats have no agouti genes in them, unless you bred an agouti to them they can't make agouti.

The rat in your picture is a Siamese, Himalayans are white typically with no body color except the darker points.
They are white because Himi's are not a pure genetic, they are half albino half Siamese, similar to a super stripe ball python is a yellowbelly and a specter combo.
Both genes land on the same locus, allelic to each other.

Check the picture he posted. The rat in the photos with the babies is 100% Agouti. It's just not that great of a photo.

Beautiful rats!! They really are gorgeous creatures. I hope that when (if) I start breeding them, I can let some go for snake food :D
