    Lost a baby
I came home last night to a funky smell, and my heart sank. I found my baby pin girl dead. All the bedding was on one end of the tub and she was stiff underneath. I did a full examination found that she had a fractured skull. So, my only guess is my 2 yo got ahold of the tub while I was at work and shook or dropped the tub and get water bowl hit her on the head. My gf doesn't remember him being near the snakes, but it's the only conclusion I can come to. I feel bad cause I thought I had them out of his reach but I guess not. Big mistake on my part and a hard lesson learned.

dang that totally sucks, one you bred, or purchased? not sure your lay out, but I have a few baby gates, one can stretch to 12' long, and screws into the wall....

sorry about your loss. (to smell bad, that must have been a day for sure, as the heat would have increased decomp.) :tears:

My snakes are in a back bedroom that is locked, but my son knows how to turn a door knob so if it got left unlocked its very possible he got in there. Now how he did it with out being seen is beyond me unless, my gf was putting something in there and turned her back on him while hanging clothes in the closet. But even then it seems like she would of told me especially when I told her the snake was dead. So I'm still very baffled. The only other thought I have is my nephew wanted to play with the snake didn't tell anyone and when he dropped the tub he panicked put her back and left the room. But he was only at my house yesterday not any days before. So the decomp doesn't add up to it being him. I feel I'm overanalyzing the situation but I really want answers cause that was my favorite snake.

Sorry for your loss. that really sucks :(

If you can't figure out exactly what happened then try not to beat yourself up over it.
Just make the necessary changes so that it cannot happen again.

    Again, sorry for your loss

He didn't know he was doing something wrong, hitting him wouldn't change anything.
    He's just a baby.

Sorry for your loss! I think everyone can say we've lost animals in ways that could have been prevented and learned the hard way. I know I have learned many lessons very quickly after they make me feel like crap. :-( sorry

So sorry for your loss... I have seen one of my snakes freak out once when I tried to feed him a live rat. It was so weird like he was terrified of it. He started swinging his head and neck back and forth violently hitting the sides of his tub while the rat just sat there. I'm so glad I was right there to stop him before he hurt himself. It really scared me. Never saw anything like it before or since then.

Not saying this is what happened but might want to consider it's possible that something happened that didn't involve the kids... What a bummer though...

That's terrible :( I'm sorry for your loss.

I have to say though... 2 year old wandering by itself and opening doors, pulling out and dropping tubs, then replacing the tub where it was and you didn't notice the water bowl shifted or anything?

I agree you should also consider options that didn't involve your kid. Maybe its head wasn't crushed and the jaw just dislocated as it died or something. Maybe its head WAS crushed... maybe by the water bowl... MAYBE it wasn't the 2 year old that had the accident...

MAYBE there was a second shooter!
