Hey guys I'm new. Here's some pictures of me and my ball Monty. I got him a couple weeks ago.

Here he is in his tank.

I've enjoyed looking at all your pictures! I'm jealous to see the ones of your snakes eating though. Monty hasn't eaten for me yet. But I did see him eat at the pet shop before I brought him home.

Whoa, thats an awsome pattern. Really different, looks sweet.
I too have a ball named Monty, a lotta people do. Monty is my lil cutey. Now that he's eating again he's on my good side.
Welp, welcome to the site. We hope you enjoy the forums, galleries, caresheets, ect, ect :)

Welcome to the forum to you and Monty! I'm glad you made sure to see him eat before bringing him home. Is this your first ball python?
-
And another Monty owner welcomes you to the site. :D
-
Yeah, I figured there would be lots of Montys! This is my first ball python, and my first snake for that matter. I'm going to make another feeding attempt either tonight or tomorrow night. I think he was stressed last time because I was handling him too much. Then I found out you're not supposed to handle him at first. So I haven't handled him at all this week, I've just enjoyed watching him. We'll see how it goes.

Welcome to the forum Gen! You've definitely found the best place on the web to learn about your new critter! (And a beautiful critter he is!)
-
gen, congrats on becoming a ball owner. They're great snakes, though they can be a challenge to feed. How do you have his enclosure set up? Have you gotten all your temps, humidity, hides, etc., right yet? If not, he may not want to eat for that reason as well and you might be better off adjusting those for the next day or two before trying to feed him again.

Very nice banded pattern on that little guy! Welcome to the site!
-
He sure is a looker! Welcome and good luck with your new buddy! :D
-
Welcome aboard, Gen! I'm sure he'll come through for you, it hasn't been very long at all. He was probably just stressed. :( He'll eat in no time, just keep all his temps and humidity right and you'll be good and he'll be happy. :)

I think his enclosure is set up okay. I've got his temp at 80-85, his basking spot's about 90, it gets down to about 75 at night. The humidity is usually between 50-55. And I've get a hollowed out log for a hide that he loves to hang around. Thanks for all of your welcomes! I'm so glad I found this site.
-
This is definitely the best forum for bp fans. :) Your bp needs both a warm side hide and a cool side hide, though, so he doesn't have to choose between security and regulating his temperature.
-
Hi Gen, nice looking ball. you will enjoy having him.
-
They also like hides that are really snug. You'd be surprised at what small spaces they will happily cram themselves into!
-
Thanks for the input. I'm going to go try and find another nice hide for him today. :)
-
Great! I'm sure he'll be happy.
-
Anybody here keep hot snakes???
So I went and got Monty a new hide today. It's a round clay-type house with a hole in the front. He's asleep(I think) under his log right now, so I can't wait till he wakes up and finds his new little shelter! Hopefully he'll like it.
-
I'll bet he'll like that a lot. I just made Hanover something similar and he seems delighted with it.
-
Is that the igloo one I saw in the other forum? That is so cute! Monty seems to like his new hide. I left for the evening and when I came back he was all curled up inside it. :P
-
Yeah, that's the one. ;) African snake living in an igloo. I'm glad Monty likes his new hide. It seems as long as it's not too big for them, too lightweight, or too open, that you can give them anything from rocks to boxes and they'll be pretty happy, so I went with something that amused me.
