Containers for Smynx
Today I ordered my first mail-order ball pythons! I know I don't "need" any more and should be getting females if/when I do get more, but this was too good to pass up. I am getting 2.0 '03 66% poss. het albinos shipped to me for less than it would have cost me to buy two wc normal babies at the local Petco, so I figure as long as they alive arrive (yes, I got a live arrival guarantee), at worst I've gotten 2 normal bp's for less than pet store price, and at best I have a chance to produce albino bp babies. I've asked the seller to allow me to use his photo of the snakes, and if he says yes, I'll post it here. I should be getting them next Tuesday.

Congratulations, Marla. Very exciting news, and need is a relative term when you're talking about our pets. I was so excited when Smulkin brought home our two new babies, so I know how you're feeling. Post some photos as soon as you can.
If you don't mind telling us, who did you order them from and how much did they cost, including shipping?
-
Thanks, Smynx. I'll either post the photo from the seller or just post photos when I get them, but either way you'll be seeing them soon. I bought them from a guy named Chad Umbaugh, who seems to be small-time and didn't have any feedback on the BOI (but like I said, at worst I have two normals ...). We settled on $120 shipped for both of them.

Definitely a good price, and if you do produce albinos, an excellent price. Best of luck with them!

Humidifier
Smynx, see why I couldn't turn it down? ;)
Rick, are you saying that I should be able to produce some, that you should be seeing some hatch, or that I should have bought albinos instead of poss hets? Confused me there ...
-
Rick is saying that when you produce some nice albinos you should sell one at a real good price to beagle............isnt that right rick..............................isnt that what your saying
-
Yeah, Paul, I'll bet that's just what he meant! :) BTW, I asked, and Chad is going to send me some photos tomorrow and does not mind my posting them here.
-
I might be wrong
John mentioned the one up top is yours. She's a beaut. I am definitely hoping the odds are in my favor on this one, to get one or both eventuallyproven as 100% het. Maybe you can sell me a 100% het female when I can save up the money, and then I can produce Paul's albino. :)
Why are they a pain in the butt to feed? I know our pickiest eater is the poss. het pied, but I hadn't heard that there was a particular pattern to pieds or albinos being difficult feeders.

Re: I'm excited ...
Freakoverdose, all right, so I got 'em backwards. You busted me. Oops.
Rick, congrats on the impending arrivals! That'a great. Did you breed her to an albino or a het? Maybe I'll get lucky and both of mine will turn out to be het albinos (I know better than to count on it, tho!).
-
That's a rough batch to end up with only two alive. The one who is being bred to a pied is the one you think has 5-8 eggs now? I guess you're hoping to produce albino pieds eventually. I think that is going to be a pretty cool looking snake.
-
Well, at least that's easy to predict. :)
-
Hopefull I'll have an easy-to-predict clutch of something other than normal in a year or three.
-
I know it takes time. I'm just hoping to build my collection to the point where we can have our first clutches next season. I'm guessing/hoping there'll probably be some adult females available after the breeding season that I might be able to pick up.
-
yeah i'm with marla, i can't wait to try breeding bp's... but i'd rather raise the parents from babies... just would mean a bit more to me to have snakes that i know and love to be the parents of my first clutch ever produced.
-
Interesting Post
anything that breathes gets love from the Wizill... however, with the Wizill, there is so much love to go around.
-
Will, how sweet. :) If I have my way, I'll have raised the daddies for the first season's clutch(es) and probably the mamas for the second. I love all those photos of baby bp's pipping. I like my dog a lot, and I like my roommate's dog all right, but typically it's the cats that capture my heart. There's no doubt that the bp's have a piece of my heart, though.

Ah, yeah. He's a favorite character of mine, Kaa from the Jungle Book. :)
-
what kind of snake do you guys think Kaa's character was based on?
he looks like a little cartoon burm to me.
-
The Canopy has moved!
I'm going to agree with you on that, Will.
-
could be. or indian python. thats where jungle book is supposed to be right? india?
-
as far as i know, the jungle book wasn't animated in india ;).

Here's the pics of the guys that should be showing up next Tuesday! Photos courtesy of Chad Umbaugh, posted with permission.
