Ball Python Terrarium Pics!
I'm getting my first ball python soon, and the terrarium is almost finished. I was hoping some other (more experienced) keepers would post pictures of their set-ups so that I know I'm doing this right.
Re: Ball Python Terrarium Pics!
Mine isn't quite done yet :) I have all of the supplies (I need to buy a thermostat, though), and it's about 1/3 of the way done.
I put wallpaper on the back wall (on the outside of course), so that the snake would have less sides to look out of, I'm using aspen as my substrate, a medium sized water bowl for humidity, 2 identical hides (one on each side) and some fake plants so that it will seem smaller/more enclosed. I'm also using a UTH (didn't think I would need a light) with a thermostat, and an Acurite thermometer/hygrometer (probe on hot side, with the rest on the cold side).
I do have a glass enclosure for now, but I'm planning on upgrading eventually. It's the exo-terra brand that has the doors on the side with air holes, and a screen top. I've heard that I can cover 1/3-1/2 of the top with a damp towel if I need to.
It's also in a lower traffic area so the snake won't be bothered all the time.
I call it a terrarium because I don't want to call it a "tank" or anything. I kind of switch between the terms terrarium, enclosure, and habitat.
Anyways, does that sound about right so far?
Also, is it okay that I put the Acurite in the enclosure?
Re: Ball Python Terrarium Pics!
Sounds like you're on the right track. Yes, you can put the Acurite in the enclosure, just tie up the excess probe cord so your new baby can't play "tie the BP knot" with it. :)
Re: Ball Python Terrarium Pics!
Okay, should I just use a rubber band to tie the cord (It's a 10ft cord), or what?

That would work, or I just reuse the twist-tie that comes with it.

Thanks, appreciate that.
I tried selling that one (1st time I was asking $1,500) due to time put in, and materials. It is 5'Lx3'Hx21"D. I ended up selling it for $200, which then I bought a 5 rack system.
It's messy work (styrofoam cutting, and designing). A great experience, and overall look.
If I do another one, I'll spray it with that rubber spray material to get all the corners and seal it tight, then cover it with the backdrop.
The guy that bought it, now has his IJ Carpet in it. :-D

Here is a few pics of mine:) They are made from recycled oak pallets all the wood is sanded sealed and stained. Inside is lined with Xpvc and glass as well as 1in of foamboard insulation. They hold temps and humidity great :)
