    Price of rack?
I'm considering purchasing a melamine rack with flexwatt tape, it has 5 shelves that each hold two 32qt tubs on each shelf (10 tubs). It can also hold three 12qt tubs (with lids) across each shelf. The price is $175 and it comes with the ten 32qt tubs.
I don't know anything about racks as I only have 1 BP in a 10g tank now, but we're going to pick up 2 more BP's tomorrow, and plan on buying more BP's in the future, so we're wanting a rack.
Is $175 a good price or..?

Depending on the condition and how well built it is, that doesn't sound like a bad price at all. The tubs alone would be around $100 or so for Sterilite 32 quart tubs (10 of them). I would look it over thoroughly and make sure there are no wear spots in the Flexwatt where the elements were exposed and make sure everything is still square and well built on the rack itself and none of the shelves sag in the middle or anything. Expect it to be HEAVY but if it looks good otherwise, that isn't a bad price.

good point on the bin prices to compare. test the flex watt before you take it, make sure it actually heats up.

Where you buyin your tubs lol? Mine are like $7-8. More like $80 imo.

OP: It depends on how well built the rack is like someone else said.^ Be warned that melamine racks are VERY heavy so bring help or you'll bust a nut moving it lol.

A French boutique, name of: Target, pronounced: tar-ZHAY. Hahahaahahaha! That's what the run in my area...either way, the tubs alone, in good condition, would make up a decent portion of that asking price.

My boyfriend is in the process of buying a new house, so he's trying to save as much money as he can, but if $175 is really that good of a price, we'll buy them (assuming everything works and is in good condition). I can easily put $100 on it as long as he is cool with covering the $75. But if it's likely that we will be able to find a rack for cheaper, then we'll skip on it. What do you guys think?

Go and check it out and if its in good condition go for it. Ask for a few pics beforehand and post them and we can tell you if it looks to be in good shape or not.

Does it come with a thermostat? If not, you absolutely NEED one before you hook it up at your house. See the following link for what happens without a thermostat:

And here is a link to a thermostat from Reptile Basics, a company many of us know & love.

    Good luck!

It doesn't come with a thermostat, but I had definitely planned on buying one for the rack before using it, no worries :)

You might have to retape the flexwatt down. It could just be the picture, but it looks like the seller just taped the corners. You need to tape down all sides to allow smooth movement of the tubs otherwise you can damage the flex.

The overall rack looks pretty good. I would take it for that price.

And since you're bringing home new snakes, don't forget to quarantine them away from your established snake. This will prevent the spread of potential illness or mites.

Okay, thanks! What kind of tape do you use to re-tape them? More flexwatt, or..?
And they will be quarantined at my boyfriend's parents house before they move to my boyfriends house where my normal will be moving to soon.

    .

Not exactly. Flexwatt, although called "heat tape", isn't really tape. It's more like heating elements inside of a plastic sheet. Use aluminum foil tape to tape down the edges - you can find it at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc... Do not use duct tape, or anything similar - I've read the heat can melt the adhesive and make a pretty nasty mess.

the first one I bought was $200 with tape, and no bins, as well as no thermostat/probe.

second one I bought was $150, with tape came with 4 bins, which I've replaced, and he had a thermostat/probe with a heat pad. So, I think I've done well so far.
