Local guy produces new morph!
The owner of my local pet store told me today that his wholesale ball python breeder produced a PINK color mutation with a normal jet black pattern. At first i was very skeptical, but he seemed pretty excited. Supposedly, the guy put his male mojave to a "normal" girl that he got off of a friend basically for free. expecting 50% mojaves, he was upset about the first 5 of 6 eggs being normals. but when the 6th snake cut, he found a pink and black color mutation! I can't find it anywhere on the internet, but the pet store guy swore he saw the picture.

Pics? Proof? I call shenanigans.

Re: Local guy produces new morph!
i'm working on it. not convinced yet myself.
the pet store guy is supposed to be calling the breeder to send him the pic and then send it to me. i just left the pet store so i can't start pestering him just yet.

Of course you can! That's what being a pest is all about :gj:!

Why start this thread without proof?

little butt hurt about it eh?
i knew posting it would stir things up, but im extremely excited and i knew the bp.net community would be as well. if i have to be on the edge of my seat, then so do you guys lol.
i was also hoping maybe someone on here had heard about it. the guy said he sent the picture to bob clark, mike wilbanks and other big southern breeders.

I hatched one out last year and named it the Barbie Ball :D

Re: Local guy produces new morph!
Is it possible that it is a light mojave with the "pink" being the natural inside color of the egg imposed on it? This seems like the most likely explanation to me.
-
Re: Local guy produces new morph!
Yeah ... And I produced a ball python with pink wings
-
Pink sounds awesome! Where does the pink even come from?
-
Re: Local guy produces new morph!
well, the guy asked that i not share this until its proven. i saw the picture. it very well could be an extremely light mojave, but why only one out of 6? makes me think rec hets. thing is, it didnt even survive. but its siblings did. he's going to pursue this gene though.
so, im sorry for the hype. please delete this thread so that he doesn't get angry with me. i asked if i could share after already doing so lol.

If it was still in the egg then it still has it's egg skin and everything that is really going to be white or whitish is going to look pink.
So until I see post first shed pics of it I find it hard to believe.
-
The white coloration of snakes in the egg are always pink....so :confusd:
(example, Blue eyed lucys in eggs are pink colored.)
And perhaps it was an extremely blushed out mojo baby that was pink tinged?
Edit: Ah! C&H Exotic Morphs beat me

Nothing new... Just hadn't fully colored up yet.
-
I wonder if the breeder cut too early?
Color and pattern are some of the last things to develop in an egg.
-
This ^ was my exact thinking as well.
Check out what's new on my website... www.Homegrownscales.com

Alot of new morphs every year turn out to be nothing new once they crawl out of the egg...
-
color is the very last thing to come in, even the pattern comes in before the color, hes counting his chickens.... i mean snakes before they hatch.
I normally dont take pictures of these, but since I just happened to have one sitting in the incubator right now, ill show you. I just had 1.2 yellow bellys hatch today, and I cut this egg open to find one that almost made it, but obviously didn't. It's color is working on coming in, but still had a few pink spots. While cool looking, not a new morph though. The ones that made it look like yellow bellys. :)

Hmm... Looks like either a baby that didn't color up, or an incubation issue, not a new morph.

Do you have pics of the babies that did make it? Curious to see what their patterns look like compared to the baby that died...alot of hooks and swirls that I don't really remember seeing on YB's...looks almost like a funky Lesser pattern...

I think he ones that hatched are even crazier. ill make my own thread after they shed. Pairing was an Ivory to a normal, so no doubting what they are.

Crazy...congrats. Look forward to pics once they shed...
Now...back to that new morph! :D

If the guy cut the egg and it hasn't fully developed yet, like previous people had mentioned, it's going to look different. I cut into an egg a little early a few years back and thought for sure I had a Mystic potion. After he came out.....he was all Mojave:O
Inside the egg he was purple and cream!

Why would I be "butt hurt" by asking why you started the thread with no proof? There are enough silly rumors floating around this hobby as is. It was a very valid question.

Re: Local guy produces new morph!
Hi,
Given the very busy pattern on those I'd lean more towards fluctuating incubation problems?
Here are some pics of one of mine that died quite far through incubation. :(

 once the snake comes out, the coloring will be different.
I was once in his place, and he'll be disappointed later on, but there's always next time. :D

Awww, sadly she has bug eyes. :(
Edit: The OP has disappeared....weird, eh?
