Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
Hey Guys,
So I've recently been dealing with a stubborn BP who refused to eat for almost 10 MONTHS.. He went off feed in the beginning of October and just ate this past Sunday.
I know that BP's have been known to go off feed for up to a year but it got me thinking..
What is the longest any of your BP's have gone off feed?

-
My longest was 10 months also.

7 months they gust started eating last week
-
One month for my second bp, none of the others have refuse food unless they're shedding

Re: Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
Mine is at month ten with no signs of breaking his fast. I know a guy whose male didn't eat for 25 months... Now THAT is a long time.

Luckily, only 2 months! It's hard to see one of your most voratious eaters with the most genetic potential go off feed! Especially when you're trying desperately to get her up to breeding weights

7 months.

6 months, every year my poss get females stops oct-march she has been doing it since I have had her. But any other months she eats like a champ een in shed
-
We had one female that would religiously go off feed for 10 months out of the year and would never eat an appropriate sized meal.
Her feeding schedule would go something like this:
Eat 1 undersized rat.
Fast for 3 weeks.
Kill undersized rat but not eat it.
Fast for 4 weeks.
Eat 1 undersized rat.
Fast for 2 weeks.
Kill undersized rat but not eat it.
Fast for 10 months.
Repeat next year.

Re: Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
14 mos (offered a rat every week during that time)...then one day, he ate a rat like nothing ever happened. Been eating rats weekly for 3 years since then with no fasting at all. BP's are strange.

bought a snake at a show, good weight nothing to set off any flags. didnt eat for me for 7 months. not sure how long prior to me having her.
then one day she looked hungry and i fed her and she ate. has not stopped since.

I have a couple that like to go off feed for 6-8 months out of the year. When they do decide to eat finally, they become garbage disposals!
-
11 mos when my pastel female hit 900g. She eats like a champ now though!

I had one off for six months and one off for seven months, and both just started eating again two weeks ago!!
-
so i was wondering about this can you handle your bp when they stop eating or no?
-

About three months, drove me nuts. He generally likes to strike for about two months at a time.

Re: Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
Both of my female normals who are a year apart in age took 9 months each. They were both aggressive malnourished petstore hatchlings when I got them. Theyre both sweethearts now, and both snakes wouldnt eat until I pushed the mouses nose into their mouth slightly. At that point they struck coiled and have been the most aggressive eaters i have(save the burm) since
-
My 4 WC girls stopped eating the beginning of October. They finally took their first meals at the end of May.
-
8 months and counting lol
-
I have an albino make that goes off food for a good chunk of the year. This time around it was 8 months. Finally caved and offered him live, and he took it in a matter of minutes. After that he's been eating F/T without problems. Not looking forward to him going off again around November.
-
I had a male That went on a year long fast. He barely lost any weight so I wasn't worried. The day he decided to eat again he almost snapped me in the face. I opened his tub to clean it and he came flying out ready to roll. I grabbed a rat and he sucked it up within minutes.

had a male who chose to fast for 15 months. . . offered food weekly, live and F/t, Mouse and Rat, large and small. Did all the tricks at about 9 months, and still nothing. I stopped trying to feed him weekly, and went to a monthly schedule, 15 months in he finally started hunting around the cage very actively, I put in a f/t rat and he hasn't refused food since (over 2 years ago)

Now that's one damn feeding schedule. Sounds like a very picky eater to me! Haha

Never had a fast :)
My baby girl has the best feeding response I've ever seen from a snake, and I've dealt with some very picky eaters.
-
11 months for an adult male
-
Both of my hognose snakes were reluctant feeders that fasted for stretches and then one day had a complete change of opinion about food.. now they are voracious multi-feeder chompers. I think both went through fasts that lasted a year with only a very few feedings.
Same thing with one of my rainbow boas, she was picky but about a year and a half ago decided she likes eating regularly.
My ball pythons haven't given me too much trouble, some have been picky, most have been great, none have given me a whole year of fasting.
-
One of my girls is on month 12 right now...however, she is starting to get quite thin (to the point where I'm considering assist feeding). She wasn't the greatest weight when she decided to stop eating, so this is definitely my most frustrating fast.

Re: Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
My girl Cu eats for about 4 months out of every year... Sometimes I can convince her to take one or two half-sized meals in the winter, but it's uncommon. Then once summer comes around she is an eating MACHINE. Balls are the weirdest snakes, I swear.
-
15 months and she laid a clutch of eggs then went back to eating normally
-
Hatched a female spider that hadn't eaten for 13 months..so I gave her some mice and it was like "Snake Crack". She's eating mice again.
-
Re: Longest period of time your BP has fasted.
So far, only a couple of months. We do have one girl though that yo yo diets. She'll pound food for a month and then cease eating altogether for a month. It's like clockwork. She's so crazy. And hey, I've been meaning to ask this question, so what better post to get it on. At what point do you guys start to worry about their not eating? Is it a certain weight they get down to or the way they act? I can tell you after a ten month span my fiancee would be strapping me down so he could force feed them, but when does it really get to be time for that?
-
Never had my guy fast yet ! But prob after posting this he prob will lol

If they've eaten before and recognize prey and your husbandry is right, they're not going to starve themselves to death.
