Toffee and Toffino Comparison pics
Hi Guys, just wanted to share a couple of pics of a 2011 Toffee and a 2011 Toffino, that hatched a cpl of weeks apart.
As you can see from the photos the Toffee gene can produce 2 very different, yet awesome looking morphs.

Hope everyone's having a great season and thanks for looking!

Re: Toffee and Toffino Comparison pics
Hey Paul, thanks for posting the pics. How big are they?
-
I'd like one of each, please ;)

Re: Toffee and Toffino Comparison pics
I really like the colors, are they just albino mixed with something or completely different?

Thanks for the comparison! They are both really neat:)

they look outstanding. Any chance for a close up on the Toffee's eyes?
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, that's a very nice comparison shot. Are all tofinos lighter in color then pure toffees? Or are there not enough around yet to accurately judge that?
-
The toffee can be bred to the albino and produce toffinos w/out all the DH crap right? How does that work? I saw that Garrick produced a toffino from a het toffee to albino so the toffee and albino are compatible?
-
Yes, the Toffee gene is in the same complex as the albino gene--just as with mojaves and lesser platinums.
So, a Toffino carries one copy of each gene, and all offspring from it will inherit either an albino gene, or a toffee gene, when it is bred.
Albino and toffee being recessive makes the whole thing more fun and interesting, lol. Unlike breeding a BEL, you have no idea what the normal looking offspring actually are--they could be het albino, or they could be het toffee, but are definitely one or the other! :)
-
They both look great! This is the kind of thing that amazes me w/ BPs, you just dont know what you'll get when you mix and match this and that. Is it only me or is the toffino's similar to the lavander albino? And is toffee compatible to lavander albino?

well not necessarily one or the other. When breeding a het toffee to a het albino, the normal ones will still be 33% normal/non-gene carriers, the other 66% will be either het toffee or het albino with no way to tell which is which.

So then breeding a toffino to a normal would produce DHs right because they are both recessive? Its just crazy that these 2 look so different in their base but would be compatible! I love it! Definitely something that I want to get into!

No you would not produce double hets. You would produce all normal looking animals, half would be het for toffee and half would be het for albino. Albino and toffee are apparently different alleles of the same gene.

So what happens when you breed a Toffino to an albino?

You should get on average half Toffino's and half Albinos. Of course I don't think anyone has actually bred a Toffino yet, but if it works the way everyone suspects and the two mutations are alleles of the same gene, that's what should happen.
