Songs that have a sentimental value to you.
I was just wondering if anyone else have songs like this, or am I just the only one? haha.
For a good portion of my teenage years I used to be in and out of what seemed like a never ending depression, and now whenever I listen to these songs they actually do bring back the memories and sometimes even tears.

And this one has to hold the most meaning to me haha (If you do happen to listen to it, it's in Japanese, but read the English captions, it's very emotional):

Yes, it's from an anime, and no, that doesn't mean it's childish.
So, anyone have any sentimental songs that they listen to every now and then or is it just me?
-
Any old Blink-182, when life was much more simple.
-
"It's funny how a melody, sounds like a memory" is basically one of my favorite lines from a song because it's true! I listen to country, and I must say I can relate to almost every single song I hear. Music touches everyone, just some more than others :)
-
Yes but i dont wanna list them. I'll get way too emotional and vomit emotions all over the thread...
-
I have a bunch. Like Leah said, music touches everyone different. I love music, and have so many that hit me different ways. I could be here all night rattling off songs.....

Today is a weird day for me to see this thread because it is the anniversary of a couple of classmates deaths.
Rachelle passed 4 years ago and the song "Not right now" by Ashton Shepard was her to a tee and was one we played at her funeral.
Dustin was 13 years ago and the songs "Write this down" and "Last Kiss" both make me think of him every time.
I've lost a lot of classmates and each one has a special song in my mind.
I also tear up at any father/daughter song because I'm a total daddy's girl.

I'm sorry for your loss, I can sort of understand how you feel.
Not Right Now was played at all three of my friends funerals, they were all in the 10th grade, we were all friends, yet they committed suicide without each other....first it was Rachael, Jake, then Nikki. I don't like listening to that song because of memories.
I'll stop there because (to quote Mike) vomit my emotions all over this thread and I don't think anyone would like that haha.

My Immortal by Evanescence is special and makes me cry every time b/c it played alot on the radio when my mom died in 04 & makes me think of our relationship. Higher by Creed is my happy place song. Sailing by Christopher Cross is my mellow, meditating song. Beautiful Freaks by Hot Chelle Rae is a song that makes you wanna dance. Only Wanna Be With You makes me think of my sweetie:P! Each song is special in its own way.

love the revenge of the nerds nod and the beatles song Navy!
-
Any song by a band called Brand New.. I'm 21 and not sure how old you guys are but in my high school years 05-09 these guys were always playing in mine and my friends cars.. and Old school Blink.. can't go wrong!
-
I dont know about sentimental but a couple of songs that gives me chills everytime I hear them are O holy night (particularly if its Martina McBride or Catherine Jenkins singing it) and Mary did you know.... I do love christmas and the "real" christmas music not those annoying christmas rock songs. It is weird though cuz I am not religious at all. They just get me... :P

Re: Songs that have a sentimental value to you.
Pearl jam-come back. It is one of the most emotional songs there is. If you've ever lost someone one close to you and that song doesn't touch you, your Prozac dose is waaaay too high.

Oh yeah! I try not to listen to it while I am driving cuz I will go off in my own world and then when I come back to reality somebody's really pissed off at me... Or worse.

Rip Out The Wings Of A Butterfly and Join Me In Death by HIM
Down In A Hole by Alice In Chains
Hope Leaves by Opeth
Broken Bottles, Angered Minds by Turbid North
The Epic Jam by Recca
Okie's Exorcism by Murder Is Justice
Countless others...

Really anything from those cheesy 1990s male-pop bands has the potential to choke me up ... Backstreet boys, NSYNC, Westlife ... all so reminiscent of my middle school days. Plus, I still remember the lyrics to most of them, so once I listen to them once again, I sing them in the shower for days ... which in itself is oddly nostalgic.

I love brand new. I listened to them a lot during high school as well.
My favorite song is by the dresden dolls song called Delilah. Reminds me of too many things.

This song made me cry listening to it for the first time. Such a powerful simple song.

Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike
Alan Jackson - Monday Morning Church
Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountain
Blink 182 - Adam's Song
Pirates of the Mississippi - Feed Jake
Randy Travis - He Walked On Water
Chris Tomlin - Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Several others but those are the ones that have the most impact when I hear them.

Aww, Feed Jake. :( For sad songs, how about One More Day by Diamond Rio. I heard (hadn't heard for awhile, its a bit older) that after I had to put my cat down, and bawled my eyes out.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Your Guardian Angel
Mayday Parade - Oh Well, Oh Well
Blink-182 - I'm Lost without You
Story Of The Year - Anthem Of Our Dying Day
Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountain ( I won't forget you pawpaw. )
There are so many more, most of the music I listen to is self reflection of self harm, and low self esteem, things that I know there are other people that know what I've been through, and struggled, especially people my age.

Dang you, DooLittle! Now I'm going to start tearing up...! I'm blaming the dust and my allergies but still. Hahahaha! That's a great song too and the music video to that one (Diamond Rio)...wow! Getcha where it hurts, that one.

Re: Songs that have a sentimental value to you.
I wouldn't say there is anything that is super emotional for me. However, one that just triggers memories of my childhood, and guys don't laugh, is "Close to You" by the Carpenters. I don't know why but it instantly conjurs memories of hanging at the lake with my family.
Someone mentioned Pearl Jam. I really like "Man of the Hour" which they used in the closing sequence of the movie Big Fish. When Vedder takes it down a notch, his voice is just haunting.
Some of the voices that came out of the Grunge era like Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Scott Weilland, Kurt Cobain were incredible. Sadly two are gone and Weilland almost didn't come through. But Vedder and Cornell still have great pipes.
-
Stoned Sour - Bother: Not sure why, but when I heard it for the first time I just started to cry my eyes out. It still gets me. Just emotionally powerful, if not directly related to anything.
Within Temptation - Destroyed: I listened to all the Within Temptation albums when my common law husband of 6 years left me for a younger woman, after getting her pregnant and living a secret life for a year while still coming home to me.... I broke when he left. He always told me he would never marry me, but as soon as he was free of me, he proposed to her. It shattered my world. So many of the Within Temptation songs played to that, and helped me connect with something that was so hard to get over. Destroyed allowed me to feel angry, when all I wanted to do was feel small and hurt. Anger helped me get through the pain, and now I'm so much better off without it. And now when I listen to these songs, I remember how strong I am. I even get angry sometimes listening to them, because I remember how hard it was.
Thankfully, I didn't need to seek vengence, as Karma had my back with that. But, that band pretty much saved my santiy, and I truly believe it helped me recover faster by having something to connect with.
"I did my best to please you,
But my best was never good enough....
I have failed you,
But, you failed me too"
She Wants Revenge - Out of Control: My power song. Anytime I'm not feeling pretty, or feeling down, or feeling troubled by something, this gives me a good 'girl power' kind of boost.
Annnnd.... Any Eiffel 65 song, haha.

OMD! Just one of many but this song still makes me cry. "Better Days,.. you can't get to no better days unless you make it through the night. You gotta be Patient".

Ugh lol I feel like a wuss mentioning this. 'Snow' (Hey Oh) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it because of a bird I had once.
A few years ago a friend ended up with a baby dusky headed conure and couldn't have him so he got left with me. At first I just wanted rid of him but he grew on me. We named him Vern and he was the sweetest thing, he'd wonder all over my apartment, get into whatever and come beg at you if he thought you had food, especially burritos lol. You can't really understand how much having a small parrot is like having a toddler child unless you've had one.
Well for whatever reason he loved that damn song, it was his favorite. If he heard it he'd jump around and sing along with it and if you shut it off he'd act like a brat for an hour.
He had to stay with my mom for awhile when my ex and I lost our apartment and she had ferrets. One day someone let him out to explore the room and my mom didn't realize and let the ferrets out and left the door open.....
I feel silly saying it but losing Vern felt like I would imagine losing a child would feel. Any time I hear that song I think of him dancing around acting stupid to it. I'm not really sure I'll ever love another animal as dearly as I did him.
RIP Vern :(

On one hand that is really sad, but on the other hand the thought of him singing along to "Snow (Hey Oh)" brought a smile to my face. Birds can be very entertaining. This reminds me of the little parrot on Youtube that sings "Bodies" by Drowning Pool. :gj:

I'm sorry, dude. It's hard, I know. I lost my dad a year ago last June and my father-in-law-to-be( with whom I was very close) in May. It doesn't go away but it gets easier the more time passes.

Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men. It was the first song I downloaded off of Napster in middle school and took "only" 2.5 hours to download with 56K modem. I felt so cool listening to it lol.
