    Is She Egg Bound?
I have a situation I have never seen before. My Het Axanthic girl laid one egg yesterday evening, at 25 days post shed. The egg shell is translucent...I can see the veins without candling and the shell feels very thin. I can feel more eggs, but she isn't acting like she's trying to lay. It's almost as if that first egg was early, and the others are not ready yet. Is that possible? She doesn't seem distressed...I am reluctant to try to palpate out the eggs since the shell is so thin. Should I give her a few days before intervening? Or do we need to do something right away?

In case it matters, she is a proven breeder, but this is my first year breeding her. It has been less than 24hrs since she laid the one egg.

I would not start to worry about egg binding until 45 days POS or so. She was probably kicking that egg out to make room for the eggs that are fertile. Go ahead and put that egg in the bator though and keep us posted.

Thank you for the quick response. That was my gut feeling (especially given the condition of the egg), but I wanted to see if it was reasonable since I've never seen this before. I will definitely keep this thread updated with what happens...

I will as soon as I can....my internet has been out of commision for a week due to a lightning strike so posting pics is like 10x more annoying than, usual since I only have my phone.

Well, still no change in the female...to me she just looks like a gravid female that's not quite ready to lay eggs yet. Her sister is also gravid...they shed on the same day and she has not laid her eggs either, so I'm not too worried. Here's a pic of the egg. It was kinda hard to get a decent pic, but this was the best I got. I'm not sure if it will make it or not, but it's kinda cool to watch the veins develop...they seem to be getting stronger.

Thought I would update this thread...she laid the rest of her eggs yesterday, 12hrs after her sister, and they look good. Still not sure about the early egg...

Keep that egg in the incubator if the veins are getting stronger that is a good sign.

Don't worry, I won't give up on the egg:) I would have put it back in with Mom, but I think the shell is too fragile for maternal incubation. If it makes it, I am curious if it will hatch at the same time as its clutchmates or sooner.

Glad to hear she laid okay, that first egg would be worth putting one of those egg cams on so people could see it develop:rofl::rofl:
