My snake died **graphic Pictures**
My mojave died and I don't know how. I'm on vacation now and my dad was taking care of her.. She was in my quarntine closet with my 2 other ball pythons and 2 leopard geckos, all of which are fine. She was fine yesterday. I have the whole room heated to about 88 degrees, and she had a water bowl on one side of the bin and a cardboard box on the other. The day I left for my uncles house I fed her a live soft furred rat which she ate with no problems.
here's a picture *graphic*

Goodbye Henrietta, even though I didn't have you for very long, you were one of my favorites

so how long has the snake been dead in that first picture?
-
I don't know, my dad said she was fine yesterday, "doing normal snake things"
-
I'm sorry that you lost your snake. Also, I would recommend putting a warning in the thread title about the graphic nature of the photo.
The snake is bloated and appears to already be in advanced stages of decomposition, so I find it very unlikely that the snake was fine yesterday. How long were you gone for?
-
dosent look a day old to me, there are fuids leeking from the skin. that far into decomp, it would probabaly be worthless for a necropsy to see what might have killed it, though a test on the stomach content might be able to be done to see if any poisions were involved. Has any other snakes ate from the same feeder stock? sorry about the loss...............

Is that blood all on the paper towels?

Man, that's horrible. Can admins edit in a *graphic* on the subject of this please... my co-worker just looked at me like I have serious issues.
I don't know if that's 1 day old though. It does appear to have died with the tail in the water bowl, though, which could have 'wicked' moisture into the body while it became bloated. Who knows. Gross and sad.
It looks like some kind of digestive issue may have occurred?
Is heating to an all around ambient temp of 88 common? Does that temp stay consistent? It seems like a poor way to keep an animal that retreats underground to cool down naturally.
Regardless, sorry for your loss. I would look at various things that could have caused this before replacing the animal though. If you have other snakes, I would especially take a close look at your husbandry.

He checked on her yesterday morning. The large amount of bloat probably is from the heat making her decompose more quickly than it would at lower temps. My normal lily ate from the same rats but she's fine. They both ate the the same rats last week so I don't think that they killed her

So sorry for your loss!:(
And I have to agree with everyone else that it really looks like she has been dead for more than just a day.
Also, I think having a constant 88 degree temp is alittle high. Most of the breeders that just use a heated room keep the room at around 85 degrees. I don't think that would be the cause of death but just something to look into and possibly adjust.
I would do a very through cleaning of your entire QT area and then keep a very close eye on your other animals that are in the rack.
When was the last time you added any new animals to your collection and your QT area?
-
I told my dad to lower the heat to 85. The last animal in qt was a leopard gecko a couple weeks ago, and I got tge mojave a few days after I got a baby vanilla and black pastel ball python, all of which are acting normally. I'm going to keep everyone in qt for at least six months now, and my dad threw away the bin sbe was in. I always thought that if I had a problem, it would be one of the babies refusing to eat
-
If you got the Mojave a few days ago, I would contact the breeder. If not to try an work out a deal, just to warn him/her of possible health issues with the snakes he is selling. Sorry bout ur loss.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I got her a month ago a few days after I got a couple of baby bps. My dad contacted the breeder but they only cover live arrival :(

im not convienced that that amont of bloating, and the fluid loss would hapen in less that 24 hours..........
