Would you say you have a big ego when it comes to your herps?
I know I am, that's all I ever want to talk about. And I love to show them off.
That "Ooh, Ahh!" reaction is a great feeling.
I love teaching people that they shouldn't be feared, but respected.
And I adore it when I help a friend get over a fear of them.

Not sure if ego is the right word.
I am proud of my collection, but very humble in comparison to what is out there.
-
I am egotistic about my knowledge of genetics and such
-
I love my collection, and I love that other people enjoy the them as well. I love talking herps but that's because it is my hobby. If someone doesn't like the same morph/species/ or reptiles in general it doesn't bother me because everyone has their ownikes and dislikes

I wasn't comfortable with using the word ego, but I couldn't think of any other word that would be even close. xD
There are plenty of snakes that I could only own in my dreams.

No ego, but I am certainly proud of what I own and feel very fortunate that I'm able to own them - I've worked hard to save up and get the snakes I want and the supplies I need. I certainly found my passion for snakes, and although I can't really talk about them much with anyone other than my bf (since family and coworkers don't seem to particularly care IMO) it doesn't make me enjoy them any less.

I love talkinf about and showing off titan! It makes me happy to get to educate people on these fantastic creatures :)
it upsets me sometimes though when i get called gross for my hobby :(

Re: Would you say you have a big ego when it comes to your herps?
not really but i do enjoy talking snakes with other snake owners it's always interesting to know what their experiences have been like owning snakes as well as future plans wether it be breeding or a new species. now for those who don't like snakes im not into arguments because they don't like them i simply continue my love for reptiles even if they have nothing nice to say it doesn't stop me.

I wouldn't go as far as saying I am self rightous or egotistical about my knowledge or collection, but that's not to say that I am not proud of both. I guess it's a fine line. I try not to come off as cocky but I'm sure it may come across that way sometimes.. LOL

I'm the crazy snake lady at our local petstore ahaha
I hate that I don't have people I can go all snake on. I can talk for hours! But that's what y'all are for ;)

Yes. In the community of people that I grew up in, I was the only person who knew anything about reptiles and amphibians. Ever since I caught my first snake when I was four, I've been teaching people about them. Thankfully, my family tends to enjoy my long winded conversations about these animals, but I'm sure that I get a little preachy.
Then I get on here and realize how little I know :D

I'm extremely proud of my TWO NORMAL BALL PYTHONS!!! And I always get excited when I can talk to people about them because I know that they may one day want to share my love for these animals. Even if I'm out on the town with them and someone just wants to ask questions without touching them,I am perfectly happy just telling them how wonderful they are and that they are DEFINITELY not scary or dangerous.
Some people don't agree with taking their snakes out in public but to me it's not okay to get angry at ignorant people if I am simply keeping them at home and not trying to change their perceptions on person at a time. If I have great snakes (like I do) why not use them to advocate and try to change some of the harmful stigmas that are constantly bombarding this great community?
Sorry I realize I got off topic but in a way this is my ego, I know I have the tools and oppurtunity to change how people see snakes and I am oh so proud to say that I do this every chance I get. I don't mind answering the same questions over and over because I know they're getting the right information and I do everything I can to be supportive and informative instead of hateful or all-knowing. To me, this is part of the joy of owning a reptile and it's a great feeling of confidence and achievment. People really do listen if you just take the time and have the patience. That fuels my "ego" per say because I know, in my own little way, I'm doing some good and changing things.

Anyone with a huge ego is a douche in my opinion. So ego is not the best word of choice as mentioned from all the above. That said, I'm weary of talking with the reptile community around Omaha because I've ran into so many irresponsible owners. Too many people that made an impulsive decision and keep their python in a filthy cage. Our show's here are always the same vendors and the same people so you get to see who's who and what's what. Not to say there isn't a group of great people because there really is! I've met some wonderful people here locally and heard of some great people I have yet to meet. But they are few and far between. But fortunately there are some great people to share stories with and do business with so I'm thankful for them and don't worry about the rest so much.. Sorry for the rantish post.

I think the word he was looking for is passionate. :D ("Would you say you are extremely passionate when it comes to your herps?") That would be my guess. Either that or a totally crazy fanatic. XD
And I drive my family sick with snake talk. I've kind of learned to only show them cute egg pictures I find on here (like when someone posts twins) now.

I am not egotistical, though trying to talk "reptile vocabulary" to people who don't know much about reptiles may seem like I am, LOL.
Most of my animals are rescues that I have kept rather than rehomed after their rehabilitation, and that part I feel pretty good about. Because of this, though, my collection is limited to only a few common species (leopard geckos, ball pythons, bearded dragons, and a gopher snake) and I cannot afford, nor have the space to keep them AND have the kinds I really want to work with (dumerils boa, various sand boas, double co-dom ball python morphs) but I love them, and they will not be replaced!:gj::gj::gj:

I wouldn't say I have an ego, but I do sort of feel bad when I keep butting in at petstores when someone is buying a snake and asking questions.
For example, I was waiting to buy some anoles, but the guy in charge of reptiles was talking to a college couple about the baby balls. I was keeping my mouths shut, and I probably looked like some weird stalker, but I was just trying to be polite and wait my turn. However, after hearing so many wrong answers, like when the customer asked, "How big do they get?" He answered, "Not too big." I but in then just poured out information about ball pythons. I lost them a customer though, because I knew a better dealer, lol.
I'm proud of my knowledge and I love showing off my snakes, because even if I just get one person or child hooked on the hobby, I feel I was successful. I remember when I was younger (before I started), andsome owners or stores would let me hold their snakes; I just felt like the world had stopped and I was holding a miracle.

Well i have a HUGE ego naturally so it kinda translates into my hobbies. (Im pretty much amazing in all aspects of living but i dont wanna get the thread off topic with my sheer epicness). Im awesome, my snakes are awesome, and herpers in general are awesome. If people outside of the hobby fail to or choose not to accept that fact then i force it onto them with my immense ego. So yea, id say i have a big ego when it comes to my snakes. :D
