1 person apartment price

I will be moving out next year, I'm working and saving up already for awhile, but I'm just wondering from the people that have already been through this, around how much is a 1 person apartment on avarage? Not the best apartment but and decent looking one.im from Tennessee if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Where I live, around a major metro area, prices range from $500 - $900 a month, depending what amenities you add to the initial price of the apartment (garage, storage area, alarm, security in the complex, etc.). You can do it on one income...might be tight until you figure out spending and a budget but it can be done. Just shop around and get a good idea of what you want before you sign the lease. Before we bought our house, my wife and I had apartments that ran the gamut from pretty nice to "what the hell were we thinking when we signed that?!", lol! Good luck!

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with my girlfriend... So it is an apartment that a single person would get. 840 square feet approxametly for $775 per month.

It isn't the absolute cheapest place in Orlando, but it is very close to my University so that is part of the cost.

It also came with a washer and drier wich was important as most I looked at did not.

It's got a nice view too!

No Idea what it's like there but I pay just under $1,000 for a 1 bedroom.

I don't think you're going to get a helpful answer at all unless you post the location where you will be looking. I've lived all over. When I was an undergrad, I rented a very nice two bedroom apartment with a friend for $750 (total, $375 pp) month in a small town. I lived next in a major city where it was $1300 for a shoe-boxed size studio apartment.

1 bedroom flats can easily be $2500 a month in places like New York city or London or $300 in rural towns. Location, not size, is really what defines real-estate prices.

I would check your local Craigslist for apartment prices so you can see what the going rates are.

Your best bet is to look online for apartments in the area you are looking. I paid close to $700 for a 1 bedroom in metro Atlanta, 880 sq ft.

Now I'm in Columbus, GA paying close to $1000 for a 2 bedroom, 1450 sq ft. Look at other things like is it gas and electric, or just electric. Do you have to pay for water, or is it included?

From looking at memphis craigslist 1 br apartments range from 300-$825 just from me scanning all those listings quickly. I also saw alot of 2br ones for like $500-$600. It probably depends largely on what its close to in the city. I would save up for at least 3 months of rent because sometimes landlords require a deposit of one months rent, and first and last months rent up front. If I were you i would drive around in the area of memphis that would be your ideal area to live, like close to your job or school or whatever, and look at apartment/condo prices in the area. You also have to factor in other costs that you might have to pay: electricity, heat (oil or electric), water, garbage... etc. You gotta check and see if these expenses are inclucded in the rent or not.

I'll be moving out in like 6 months when i transfer to a 4 year school. I cant wait to go apartment hunting... NOT! lol:rolleyes:

In Gainesville, how much you pay is directly related to how much gun fire you want to hear during the course of a typical day...

$450 - $520 = daily gun fire and regular car jackings.

$580 - $675 = much less gun play, along with fewer car jackings and violent abductions during hours of darkness.

I really wouldnt have thought gainsville would be a bad place. I picture it more hick/ agricultural and since theres a huge university there i figured it wasnt so bad. And to think you suggested i transfer there before?!?!?!?:D

Mike, I still think you should transfer! The University of Florida not only provides you with a fine education, but also teaches you how dodge bullets and drive your vehicle out of the "danger zone" during a coordinated ambush on 13th Ave...

OP, as you've no doubt noticed from the other responses, telling your location as your state only is not specific enough to get any kind of price accuracy. The basic thing is this: if you're in/near a major metro area, prices will be higher than if you're rural, and the closer to the center of the metro area you get (or closer to major colleges), the higher the cost. You're just going to have to do some research about what your area is like...

We have rented two apartments and one house here in Iowa all for $450-470 a month. All in safe neighborhoods as well. Now our mortgage is barely more than our rent used to be. It all depends on what area of the country you live in. Our house is in a small Iowa town with 3 bedrooms, not a big house by any means, but if it were in the city 20 miles from us the mortgage would easily be close to $1,000. Check apartment and rental house prices in the area you want to live, if you don't mind driving, look farther out. It's cheaper for me to drive than to live in the city I work in.
