    Vivarium Help
how long would this vivarium last for?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hagen-VivExo...2029422&sr=8-3

My Ball is about 110 grams, Thanks

If the given specs are in inches that would easily house a adult. A 40 gallon tank is suggest for an adult BP. They are around 36x18x18.

That is huge and way more than you really need for a BP.

The measurements are in centimeters, because that is the smallest vivarium i have saw.

Just another way of the UK being stupid ;)

Thinking about it that must be centimeters, huh? So its 23x15x16. Makes more since. That seems smaller than a 20 gallon so it is already to small.

What are you using now that you want to change?

I am using a tub but i feel uneasy using a tub because the humidity is awful etc... id prefer getting a vivarium to be honest

    Which would you recommend then?

    This one:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hagen-VivExo...2030667&sr=1-2

The spec for the one i am using now the tub:
    Depth - 40cm
    Width - 60cm
    Height - 18cm
    (i think)

23 x 15 x 16 for a hatchling ball python is pretty big. I'd say it could live comfortably in there until its in the realm of 700g. A male might not even get much bigger than 700g.

Why is your humidity bad in your tub? Did you poke holes in the lid or put too many holes? You should have no humidity problems in a tub.

Hes about 10 weeks old, was underweight when i got him though.

I did poke like 100 holes in the tub but the humidity is always like 76% its not just that using a tub makes me feel uneasy for some strange easy,
so was the link i provided suitable for my ball for a good while then?

    Thanks

So that one is 36x15x16. That would be fine and should fit a regular size adult.

It should be easier to keep humidity up in a tub.

What did you make the holes with? They don't sound big enough. I use a drill and a 1/4 bit.

Yes, you should be able to make it work. Just make sure that you provide two snug hides, and maybe add some fake vines or plants to fill in some of the dead space...

I used a soldering iron to do the wholes there quite big to be honest, i even did holes on the top, i even cut a square out and covered it wish mesh and nothing continues to go up.

My room is well ventilated i have these air vent things in my room that lets in fresh air

If you are using a large water bowl, or it is sitting on top of the heater, this can also cause high humidity...

Maybe your hygrometer is messed up. If they get wet they start to give false readings. Did you try a different one?

Tubs aside, I think the first would be a better option. Ball pythons can stress out in an enclosure that is too big, and a tiny baby is even more prone to stress from a big enclosure. A 3' long enclosure might be good for a ball python pushing 2,500g but surely not a tiny baby like yours. The smaller one will last you a long time.

You will probably have high humidity in that one your looking at then. If you have a fan you could place in the room on low it should drop it some. What's the humidity in the room?

I done the hygrometer salt test, and it was only 2% off the correct reading, and i am confused some people are telling me the X24 is too small and i should use the X36 and then others are saying other things :/

    Yea, the vivarium.

The smaller one is actually near a 20 gallon tank. It sounded small but i just looked it up. That would be fine.

Post a pic here or in your profile so we can see how you have the holes put in it.

Add a fan and it will drop it down and you can save your money. Don't put it next to the tub just in the room to get the air moving. An oscillating one would be best.

I am guessing that your room is about the same. This enclosure will work fine. The rule for size I use is the length plus the width = the snakes length. So until you snake is around the one meter mark if it gets there a male may never be that large a female maybe longer. Some say this method is too roomy and that L+W (x2) = snakes length is fine I think this just looks small to my eye so I don't use this rule of thumb. The other option is to build one there are a number of groups and individuals whom will do so if you are not able to. The problem is still however if your room is 70% the enclosure will still be 70% or so. It is not an issue if there is enough ventilation and air is moving freely and it is clean.
