Breeder for Piebalds?
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. :)
I am hoping someone could recommend a good breeder for CBB Piebalds? Thank you so much in advance!
-
There are plenty of reputable breeders to choose from. You can visit faunaclassifieds.com and search for piebalds.
Or you can try some of the big guys like Ralph Davis, BHB, NERD, Peter Kahl, Gerrick DeMeyer...just to name a few.
just do some research I know you can find a perfect little pied.

Re: Breeder for Piebalds?
Thank you so much for the info so far everyone! I appreciate it! :D Checking them out!

All of the above breeders are good. I have bought bp's from several of them with great results. I also recommend Paul Fisher of Pied Peddler. I bought my male and both of my het. females from him. He specializes in pieds and pied combos.

What state are you in? If we knew we might be able to reccommend a good breeder close to you so you could go check out the snakes in person.

Re: Breeder for Piebalds?
We love piebalds! One of our female Piebalds laid 6 good eggs just a few days ago so they'll be ready to go in a few months. We've purchased snakes from a variety of breeders, including The Snake Keepers (where we also buy all of our rodents) - Dan and Collette are amazing. If I were looking for a new snake today I'd be calling them.

You do realise that many breeders do not have a retail space.
As a home based business you cannot have people coming and going on your property, there is also safety issues when it comes to letting a total stranger into your home, not only for your animals especially if you have a valuable collection but also for your family.
Most breeders will not let tu come and check a snake out in person.

But they might meet them somewhere to allow them to check it out. Plus if they meet up you dont have to deal with shipping :)

True dat. Plus, if a breeder is unwilling to let me view the animals before purchase if I'm willing to drive there, what does that say about the breeder? Thats like a breeder at an expo not allowing me to hold and inspect an animal before purchase. If I was denied, I would move on. I would wonder what they're trying to hide.
Also, pieds aren't like a pastel or normal. They're still a rather pricey morph. I would definitely agree to check out the snakes before purchase if at all possible. But that doesn't mean that buying online is bad :D I do that ALL the time. Just have to pay that pesky shipping charge :taz: and make sure you buy from someone who is reputable with some online street cred :gj:

But there's a difference between being at a show displaying animals and letting someone cone into your personal home.
I'm very careful around here who i tell what i have. I'm paranoid about break ins and such.
Just imo

It says that the breeder doesn't want strangers in their home. I'm not going to allow someone I don't know into my home either. I'll be happy to meet locally to deliver, and I'll provide pictures of what I have available.

I am a home based breeding business and even more than not wanting people in my home, I can't because its a condition of my business license...
To OP, you can go to the east bay Vivarium in Berkeley as well. They do have pieds occasionally, but are a little pricey because they are a retail brick and mortar business...

Thanks for the info everyone! I'm fine with buying both locally or online, as long as it's from a reputable source and not insanely overpriced to rob me blind. :) It will be a personal pet so how it was taken care of since it hatched is especially important to me.
-
Just wana throw a quick 2 cents...
The reason everyone is listing a bunch of reputable breeders is so that the OP doesn't have to worry about getting sent an unhealthy snake. Buy from someone who has a good reputation. The "big names" listed are "big names" because they produce quality animals and have great customer service. You can't go wrong buying from them :gj:.

RDR has some amazing ball pythons, and he is very helpful. But his website is the worse. It is do hard to find something you looking for since there is no available page.
Look at good breeders and everywhere. You never know where you will find one, I'm picking up mine today from my gfs coworker.
As for letting people in your house it's a tuff subject, when I start breeding and selling I would not allow random people into my home. I'm
Not scared of robbery since my 2 neighbors are cops and I have my 75 lb American bulldog/pit mix that wouldn't not allow you into my house with out her giving you the okay:). She's not aggressive just over protective of my mom and gf and if she feels they are in danger she will give you a warning that she doesn't like what you are doing.

Besides worrying about strangers, you also need to be concerned about illnesses another helper could unknowingly bring into your collection. Even mites.

Very good point, I completely forgot about diseases and parasites.

Re: Breeder for Piebalds?
I just wanted to thank everyone for responding to the thread; I am now a happy owner of a 2012 Piebald. :) Thought I'll share:

Question: I am currently using cypress mulch (I was looking for orchid bark but found none), but the humidity is running up high (83%) and I don't know how to bring it down. Also, is it true that cypress mulch and other bark type of substrates may carry insects such as mites? I froze the bag before using it (tip I got from someone) but I don't know if that will actually rid the substrate of any insects. The breeder of the piebald assured me the snake carries no mites, and I havn't seen any. Now I am just worried if he may catch some from the substrate... havn't seen any there either though. I bought the cypress mulch bag from a pet store, not from a garden center.
Thank you.

Re: Breeder for Piebalds?
I'm not convined 83% humidity is a problem.
I've heard about mites in cypress more often than in aspen. But I have heard it about aspen, too. If too much humidity is your problem (!) (I live in Arizona, I never have that problem...) then you can switch to aspen, or plain packing paper. They I heard they sell rolls of it at the Home Depot.
I would hang onto the cypress. Most people have a harder time keeping the humidity up in the winter. What part of the country are you in?

Thank you for the info. I was a little worried as 83% seemed higher than most care-sheets I have read. I am glad that it may not be a problem after all. Do you know if freezing the cypress mulch before use will help get rid of mites?
I'm in San Fran, CA.

I guess even in the Bay Area you could have "dry" weather sooner or later. :) Not sure about freezing, but it couldn't hurt. (Baking it would certainly work, but that would also turn it kindling dry. Freezing is much safer.)
