Anyone learned things that apply to other areas of life from BP's?
I never knew much about genetics before this hobby, now I nerd out on it.
So today I was thinking and realized I'm a recessive visual, as I'm blonde. My boyfriend has dark hair but his mom is blonde so if we had kids they would all be het for blonde and have a 50/50 chance of being blonde. I dislike blonde hair personally so am quite disappointed but glad I don't plan to have kids lol. They couldn't even get his pretty green eyes since green is recessive to blue and I've got no green to throw. Lol *rant.*
Anyone else learned anything/ applied anything they learned from this hobby to other aspects of life?

I told my wife if we breed snakes I could teach our kids about genetics, odds, reproduction. So to answer your question, yes learned another way to work the wife.

when i read this on FB i was lmfao and wanted to post but im not friends with him and it was on his wall lolol!
And yes i got into bps my sophmore year in highschool so i basically taught the genetics lessons in my AP Bio class! Well not really, but i could have! People were amazed at how i could do like 2-3 gene punnett squares in my head lol. I thought about EVERYTHING as bp genetics and it helped alot. I even caught the teacher once or twice when we learned about recessives and hets and poss hets and such. Im a HUGE genetics nerd bc of this hobby. It makes me sound SUPER smart whenever i talk about it too so i like that aspect of it too. Not many other topics that will make me sound smart when talking about them besides herps and football lmao!

Then make friends and rant! With Pookie too, would make pic-snooping much easier, stalker-face ;)
I realized recently that I have a better grasp of genetics than a guy at a local reptile store and they're a good reptile store and breed balls. He couldn't understand my comparison of a codom morph/ super codom to a het/ visual recessive and I was explaining my plan of breeding a visual Mojave OG to a visual lesser OG and he was saying I could get some hets. I just don't argue, he's been in this longer and clearly knows more than me. It made me proud of myself.
I remember the genetics lessons in high school, I went to an agricultural high school for a while so they were all about it but I didn't care then so I paid no attention and failed.

Patience... I didn't have it at all before these lil worms :D:gj:. Now I appreciate the light at the end of the tunnel. The ultimate goal. The reward for hard work and commitment :gj:.

Patience, and that my children will most likely be brunette het for blonde, with big shoulders and hips and hazel eyes with terrible tempers.
Also, to slow down and enjoy the subtle things in life

Wait what? Do I have a new fan? lol oooh lala :D

I forgot one! This is most definitely my favorite lesson too. Being healthy and beautiful does not mean you're skinny enough to see ribs and a backbone :D :D
-
But but.. I can see ribs and backbone... http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_eek.gif does that mean I am not beautiful? Ugly as it were?
Oh noes..

No! It's what is on the inside that counts! I will never be anything smaller than a size five and that is on a GREAT and lucky day. Because of my body type I used to feel bad about my self image. On another post I was reading how when females are gravid you just say Sweetie you aren't fat, You're beautiful! I'm not gravid, but I like to think I'm still beautiful even though I'm not tiny. :) I think you are very fortunate, but I realized that, like you, I am healthy and beautiful in my own way!

Nah, for reals we've talked about it before and decided from a genetics stand point we really shouldn't be breeding and possibly spreading various defects that run in our respective families.
Another thing ball pythons, or really breeding anything can teach you: only breed in the good genes.

I have no idea what size I am.. you should see me shopping trying to find girl pants (that should be a hint that I dont do that whole "girl" thing very well lol) lol I am like a chicken with my head cut off, still couldnt tell you what size pants I wear lol
Hey even though I am skinny, most people think "go eat ya freak!" and stuff but honestly all I wanted to look like growing up when you get made fun of for being skinny, was one of those not fat but you know the voluptuous curvy chicks who isnt to thin but not "fat" either, the as I think of "healthy weight" women who arent stick thin, like me lol even though now I am getting "fat" compared to how I was.
Yea trust me, people think you can only have body image issues if your big, nahh took me a long time to be comfortable with myself and I am what most chicks think they want to look like.
I always got made fun of for being skinny, it wasnt very fun at all. So I do sympathize with the curvy chicks and I honestly on most days wish I was like them, I would fit into tops and fill out pants sooo much better!
Dont feel bad about your body type, as long as your eating right and being healthy and exercising, do you! The majority of people think I should eat a sammich and gain some weight, and they would rather have a chick with some meat on her bones but I gain what I can per my body type and I dont doubt your smokin' hot! You already proved with your post you hot on the inside and have a bad ass personality because your not letting peoples ideas of what they think is beautiful effect you or your self esteem, and imo thats way more attractive than some "modelesque" idea of what a females body should look like.
I wouldnt really say I am fortunate either just because I am thin, I think I am scrawny and boyish 99% of the time and wish I was a little more, meaty and sexy chick looking..
Plus when I sit in hard chairs my butt hurts because I have no cushion.. and I feel like when I wear shorts my legs look like

Yea genetic defect wise I shouldnt breed, with all the heart issues in my family its just not a wise move lol chances are just about 100% it will be passed along.
Plus, I really do not want to stretch my cloaca :O lol
Yep yep. Its not just about what you can see on the outside, when you take into account the lineage and the physical/internal/mental defects that could possibly be passed on, it really makes you think much more about what you do and dont want to produce.
Like with my Super Snow Enigma Leo, he shows zero ES and I want to breed him to another ES lacking Enigma and help get rid of the defect as best I can.. :D

Amen X about 1000. I didn't really care as much until I had to start wearing more "proper fitting clothing" for work but boy, not a day goes by I don't wish I had boobs. My shirts would look so much nicer.
Everyone is beautiful because we are all different. If everyone was the same the would be no beauty.

Right, God it gives me anxiety almost having to actually dress like a girl sometimes because I feel so.. stick like lol and not very hot at all because I am scrawny and most girl clothes arent meant for chicks with my body type..
I wish I had some boobs at all! lol
Yep yep on the last part! I personally think a more curvy chick is prettier and sexier than someone who is that "model" idea of sexy, and it all imo rests on their personality and how they think they look, if you are a little "chubby" but you have that personality that say's "Screw you I am a sexy *shut 'cho mouth*" then thats what is the hottest to me, not that I am lesbian.. contrary to popular belief lol
I appreciate a confident female who is comfortable and happy with themselves. /ramble

Well, I have the boobs (more than I probably need) and not all clothes fit either. I tried on a medium sized shirt once and the girls got STUCK!!! my friend was literally standing on the bench in the dressing room trying to pull it off of me while I was trying all I could to get myself loose! Talk about embarrassing! I think America has some serious issues with the clothing they're putting out! These clothes just don't like anybody!

You wanna give me some? lol I can honestly say, I have never had that issue lol
I wouldnt say embarrassing, I would have been laughing so hard.. maybe I am weird lol I know my Mother who is much much bigger than me has had similar things happen and she will be laughing so hard she cries
I read somewhere that our sizes here are waay different than other countries and each stores sizes are different, I know that when I go buy ****ies I get a different size every time because they always are screwed up lol I will wear this size in this color of pants and then a completely different size in another.. its ridiculous
-
Yeah I was laughing until I had to explain to both our boyfriends why we took so long lol I haven't bought jeans in forever, all of mine are still good and when they no longer work they are converted into shorts
-
Lol, I was thinking about this just this morning.
At breakfast this morning my mom was talking about my youngest brother (almost 2y old), how he was more of the thinner and stronger side of our family and that he looked exactly like my 2nd brother and my granddad (of my dad's side).
That got me thinking that my dad is het thin although he is more the "heavier" type. It eaven makes sense because out of us 5 boys, we are 3 (1st -me-, 3rd and 5th) thin types, so he has 1/2 odds.
-
Lmao@ "het-thin."

One important thing:
Leave it alone, and don't fiddle with it. lol...
-
Patience :)
Not to listen to everybody else and their opinions on snakes and reptiles because in the end I made up my own mind with an opinion completely opposite to theirs :)
As for dressing in girls clothes and being sexy and womanly, well...I'm 21 and I dislike my body, mostly because I have nooo chest to speak of. I look like a 15 year old.
Flat as pancake day.
Boy legs and boy hands and I'm really short...but Ive got a waist and hips so I look reeeeally kinda odd.
My Grandma is always trying to dress me in girly flowery frills and all that... Pink and white and yellow and "be more ladylike!" Butttt...I'm really not comfortable like that :)
Give me ripped jeans and a tshirt, or a corset and skinnys and a pair of New rocks aaaany day!
Tried wearing heels to make my legs look longer, but I have big feet for my height and it was killer... :D
-
Snakes helped me learn about:
- Rats
- Business management and marketing
- Basic electric circuits (flexx watt)
- Budgeting
- Research
- Networking
- Organization
etc etc.
I love keeping ball pythons! It's such a well rounded hobby. There is always something new to learn and see and so many aspects to it that make it so interesting. I have never stuck with a hobby, or collection in my life like I have with this. It's one of the most rewarding things I have done with my life.
Cheers,
Chris.
