    How did your collection start?
So it seems like most people started their collection with a normal. Just out of curiosity (sorry if this has been done before) what were the next couple snakes that you bought after your first? Include your first and then the next few after that. :D
  • 06-29-2012, 12:10 AM
    Quantum Constrictors
My First Snake was a Okeetee Corn Snake. Then I got My first Ball Python which was a Pastel Female. Then a Cinnamon, normal and pinstripe.

First snake was our anery motley corn, then we got a spider and our mojave ball. Spider wouldn't eat so we traded back for the pinstripe. Later got the bumblebee. All the rest were a package deal from someone getting out of the hobby except the albino and albino het spider, which were recently won in an auction from and purchased from Joe Ellis respectively.

Aaaand yep. That's the whole story :)

Third was my Cali king (first snake I had shipped to me):

    Then my spider girl:

I don't nor will I ever have a collection, but out of my pets, my ball python was the first. Then a little over a year later I got my Borneo. After that I ended up with a few others here and there, but I ended up rehoming them with a friend. The boas came further down the road because the parentals were not so excited about having boa constrictors in their house. :P

The baby of the family, Ebonee, now 2 years old.

I just have the two kids at the moment. I got Perry my normal girl five years ago and told myself I would only get one. Then I got her little brother Draco, another normal, and I'm expecting my cinny female in September. It's all up in the air from there.

Started out with my Leo, Gaia, who made me fall in love with Geckos. Recently added my baby BP and I'm going to be adding a baby Crestie soon as well. Then I'm hoping to add one or two more Balls and I think that'll be it for me for snakes!! Geckos are my love. :)

I started with my male normal as just a pet, and then I found the wonderful art of breeding and worked my way to a pastel, then a spider, clown, and so on.

Re: How did your collection start?
I started out afraid of snakes to the point where id lose consciousnes when I saw one XDD
My fiance had an aggressive sickly male normal BP, and after watching it for a few months I decided to hold it, realized it wasnt o bad and he died shortly therafter. I wanted to get over my fear of snakes, so I went to the pet store and got my little female normal Pakul. a year later I fel in love with another female petstore normal that I named raine. I started planning to breed balls and about six months ago I got my male spider Gaara. Around when I got Gaara I decided to start researching other types of pythons, and was really intregued by burms. I was scanning craigslist one day and found my little Laila, a normal female burm for $60 with a 20 gallon tank included. Great deal. Now ive got my next 5 years of breeding plans planned out, and its simply a matter of aquiring the snakes ^^

Started out with an adult male Blood Red corn snake from a local ad.

Then I got a hatchling male Mojave ball python at my first reptile expo from Regius Pythons, a local breeder.

After that I traded the Mojave and some cash for a hatchling Albino female and a hatchling Yellowbelly male.

Then I bought a hatchilng Spider female from TSK, also a local breeder.

Those were the beginnings of my collection.

2 normal males (Zuni, Monty) where given to us as rescues, so I started doing my research and fell in love with pieds.

Then I bought Mariah, a female pastel at an expo.

Then I rescued an eight year old normal girl, Sara.

Then I bought a beautiful YB boy, Loki.

Then a proven get pied girl (Taki), then a double het albino pied boy (Maxi), Then an pin girl (Ivy) and a honeybee boy (Voldo).

    Then..... Still dreaming

Knowing next to nothing about snakes, I got a rescue GTP. Had a lot to learn, but she turned out pretty cool.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...08-12-28-3.jpg

Then the next ones I got, a couple years later I went to tinley and got my male lesser and 2 albino females and my male carpet python all in one day. :)

I only have two snakes right now, but I have some big plans! MY first snake was my male pastel BP, and I got my hognose a few months later. Now, I just got my Cb70 rack, and there are two empty tubs that just seem so lonely:D:D Can't wait to fill them with some females so that I can get breeding!

Re: How did your collection start?
My first BP was bought after shopping around for a pet snake. I bought it from PetSmart. I just wished I had of done my research before I bought then but I didn't. I know have 5 in my collection of BPs and one nicaraguan boa they just are not in my care and I can get them back when I am stable. but I will say this I DEARLY miss my snakes. And to make it worse the people I am around right now does not have a clue as to what my animals mean to me.

I started out breeding corn snakes cuz I was fascinated with genetics and they were fairly easy to breed. After the corns I wanted to try a BP, and started with a normal female only for a year to ensure I could care for them properly. A year later I purchased a pastel male and it's been a budding addiction since. I just love them

I started with a normal girl (though with blushing all the way up to her back, speckling on her sides, and a nearly clear belly, she's one heckuva normal), then got a coral albino red tail, a male halloween crestie, my black eye type 2 anery w/ genetic stripe Nicaraguan boa, and now I'm fostering a huuuge corn (possibly a mix? She's a bit different). Depending on how things pan out my next couple snakes will be a spinner male and/or an ATB, and maybe a couple crestie girlfriends for my boy :D

My ball collection started with this ivory female in 2009, she was actually my first snake. After that, I bought a Butter Pastel female... I now have 30 ball pythons :) You know how it is..

My first was a male normal, you know, because I only wanted one and wanted him to stay small

Next was a male pastel, then a male mojave and female spider (at the same time), then two female normals, then a female pastel, then a male orange ghost, then female albino, and to finish it off I got FIVE snakes from my boyfriend for Christmas which were a female lesser, female fire, female pinstripe and a pair of yellowbellies.

In between all of them I got a male boa (somewhere around the time of the two female normals, just before anyways), and a female boa, and a male corn snake. Then of course my miscellaneous geckos, tarantulas and tortoise lol. I found out very quickly why it's called an addiction

I think it is interesting how everyone's collection started! I hope to be able to get a few more (or a lot more) in about 2 months when we move to our new home. I can't decide what I want yet though. Thanks for sharing everyone!!:D

I've kept a variety of reptiles since I was a kid and don't remember what I got first or really why I loved them, so I consider my re-entry into the reptile world a few years ago as my "start". I got my female BP, Ella, from a reptile rescue almost 4 years ago because I just wanted one for a pet (had happy memories of my snakes and lizards as a kid, lol).... :P

A year later, my hubby having fallen head over heals for Ella, I decided I wanted a larger snake so I went to a reptile expo with no firm plans on what to get and came home with my female Colombian hypo boa, Peaches.

That fall (about 5 months later), I decided I reeeally wanted a GTP and after having a super conversation with a terrific breeder in Atlanta, I purchased Hunter. He was the first reptile I've had shipped.

About 9 months after Peaches, I found a perfect future mate for her from the same breeder I got her from and brought home Jasper, another Colombian hypo boa.

2 months after that, again from the same breeder (he knows "Sucker" when he sees one, lol....), I found a gorgeous Argentine boa male I just had to have and Mojo came home with us.

Then I found Humphrey (again at our local rept expo - maybe I should stop going there....), a gorgeous male Leachianus Gecko, and decided to take the plunge into geckos much sooner than anticipated. But sometimes you have to accept those opportunities when they present themselves. :D

So now that I've discovered the amazing world of geckos, and now that my hubby has claimed Humphrey as his own, I have 2 Crested Geckos awaiting shippment to me in the fall when the weather cools... Thus begins the addiction.... :gj:

My first was a sunglow corn snake. Then I rescued a leopard gecko about 3 years later followed by a few more when we moved into this house. Our friend stayed with us for a while and picked up a female normal who my husband admitted he didn't mind the look of. Went to a reptile show where both my 18 month old(at the time) picked a het albino, and I picked a normal back in September. Both are female. My husbands friend then asked if I could house his 2 RTBs till he can find himself a home where he could have them. In February I had my first snake shipped to me. A 2011 male het albino. April I picked up a 2011 male yellow belly. In May we went to a show where I picked up a 2010 female pastel and a 2011 male het pied. My husband then Decided he really liked a 2009 male pastel who ended up coming home with us. Last Friday I picked up a 2010 female het albino. Now I'm cutting myself off until my rat population catches up, and I try my first year of breeding.

    Lets see here:
Normal male, pastel female, mojo male, a normal female and male spider same day, female mojo, male pied and female lesser (who died for no apparent reason) same day, then a het pied and male spider same day.

Now I have 9 babies that just emerged from their eggs!!

I only have one baby ball python right now. That will change tomorrow morning when my Brazilian rainbow boa arrives.

Always wanted a snake, went into Petsmart one day, saw a Ball Python, bought it spontaneously...

    And there you have it.

Then came a pastel, then a bumblebee, then another pastel, then a mojave, then a butter to make bels's. Then started the boa addiction..... :D

I just signed up for the forum yesterday as a way to learn and meet others who love reptiles. Within the last two months my daughter has slowly brought home a neglected collection from someone who couldn't handle all their animals. First was a baby female normal, a week later two adult male normals and a week after that two bearded dragons! The snakes are putting on weight and looking so much better. They were underfed, dehydrated and mite-infested. The Beardies were good but treated them for mites too just in case. I'm so hooked I contacted Royal Constrictor Designs about a bumble bee! :P

I have done most of my business with Garrick. He will go out of his way to answer any questions you have. Every time I am on the phone askin about a snake or paying one off or something I end up talking for about 20 mins. Gotta pick his brain when I can! Lol.

I had a pair I bought down in north Carolina back in the early 90's I gave them to a friend who had always wanted a ball python a few years later though. I got my next one from work back in 07, (she was found crawling into a gas station) she's about to give me her second clutch any day now. After seeing a bumblebee online I found out about Garrick through a local store and ordered my first group from him. I have over 30 now with 14 eggs cooking and 3-6 more clutches on the way. Most fun I've ever had!

Well when i was a youngin i would catch everything that ran, hopped, slithered or crawled. And id keep em as long as i could, i guess thats what made me love reptiles and such. But the first one i ever bought was a male amel corn because my uncle said i needed a "real snake" haha i had a garter snake at the time that was about 6 inches and ate slugs.

I got my first normal ball when I went to a reptile expo for work. I went to pick up a western hog and a desert king. I saw a beautiful little girl and had to pick her up :) From that point on it has been pretty great. I only have a few right now, but I'm about to pull the trigger on another rack....
