Just a heads up. I was sent a virus to my BP.net email today by two different email accounts.
emilyday@mx78.knwent2.biz Subject line: Error
and
boaguy12@redtailboa.net Subject line: Hello
It was the W32.Novarg.A@mm worm.
The BP.net email service gave this message with both:
This message was written in a character set other than your own. If it is not displayed correctly, click here to open it in a new window.
The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary attachment.
Be careful when opening attachments. Luckily, my antivirus program picked it up.

Virus sent to me....
yo, I got that same e-mail "hello". It had a .ZIP attached that said text.zip. I didn't open it because I know better tho
-
I've gotten 4 or 5 different viruses in just the last couple of days coming in with zip or pif attachments, so I'd say this is a good time to be extra careful about not opening any attachments that you didn't request.

my bp.net email gets weird stuff sometimes.

My computer keep's telling me I have the Trojan Sub7 virus and to rund the test to get rid of it. Everytime I run the test's (2 different virus test's) they both say no virus' found. Get's quite irritating since both test's take over 40 minutes to complete. Luckily this virus, if it is actually working on this computer, is pretty much harmless. Just allows the jerk that sent it to me see what im doing. At least thats what I have been told.
-
Actually, it allows him to control your computer, use it as a server, use it to send viruses or mail bombs, view what you're doing, read the contents of any file on your hard drive, corrupt the contents of your hard drive, eject your cd-rom, or just about anything he could do while sitting in front of it. If I were you I would run a Sub7 removal tool from Symantec (Norton), Panda, antivirus.com, or any other major vendor, and make sure it was off my system.
-
Yeah- I got a warning from my anti virus when I got on the site... and also, I checked bp email and got the same stuff as you guys. The one that came from boaguy, it must be on his puter, may want to email him and tell him, cause it is a program that auto sends to anyone in your address book, or anyone you have recently emailed. It does seem to be quite harmless, but I would be careful and keep your anti virus up to date.

The worm u got is most likely the new one ravaging the internet... Just a piece of free advice that I keep telling my grandfather (because he infects his dell several times a week) is if you do NOT KNOW the email address do NOT open it... and even if you do, if its a title thats unusual for that person do NOT open it. I'd rather miss an email that mighta said "hey how u doin bro, haven't seen u in a while" then inefect myself with a virus.
Yes I'd go to www.symantec.com and download the updates for ur virus scanner, or if u contact me i might be able to help you as well. Drop me an email if u need anything.
-
Marla...I have AVG and Panda. They both say that no viruses have been found. But this darn Pop up keeps "Poppin" up saying that the sub7 is on my computer and to run the test to get rid of it. So I dont know what the heck is the truth, Virus - No Virus?
-
Hey Ironhead go to http://217.170.18.24/~rappie/index.php?pagina=welcome they have a trojan scanner that is pretty beefy. It may help you. I ran it on my puter, and it says I am clean, but, you are getting pop ups, I am not.
ALL of you- please remember to update your antivirus constantly, I dont want any of you getting this since we dont even know what it may do to your puter.
So far my puter is totally clean, but I will be checking it alot to make sure I dont get a virus.
-
It sounds like he's got spyware not a trojan.... spyware won't show up on most AV scans. Msg me and I'll send whoever wants it a program to scan for spyware. If u have any doubts ask Ball, I sent it to him the other day.
-
I have the software on my ftp, pm me or contact me via AIM or MSN for connect info. Its available to all members as needed.
-
Here is a guide that tells you how to manually find and remove sub7 if you are infected with it. Not quote so easy as letting an antivirus program do it for you, but better than wondering if the alerts are true or not.
-
Go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
It is a free online virus scan. It's better than Norton.

If it's adware, you can download spybot for free adn remove and immunize your system against spyware and adware. www.spybot.com
-
adware
I've had bad experiences with spybot, I know adaware sometimes misses stuff but I perfer it over anything else I've tried.
-
I logged onto yahoo and in the headlines was a message regarding a new virus sweeping the net, needless to say upon checking my mail I had 13 sent to me!
-
Well, the download I got off of Chris just got rid of 141 files infected with spyware.......It work's, I recommend it.
-
Wow ... ya have to be careful what you install or allow to install. I use Ad-aware regularly myself.
-
I blame it all on the kids. I very seldom ever download anything on the puter nor do I visit more than a couple of sites when I am on. I know that they get on here and do just about everything and anything. So now I will have to put the wrath of Carl on them....
-
LOL! Yep. That's more than half the reason my kids don't use the internet unsupervised. I trust them more with their own safety than I do with the computer's.
-
When Im home they dont get on without the old man checking up on them..It's when Im gone they get on and go to town. Guess I will just have to change the password and not let them know what it is. That will really piss them off.......
-
my sister had one that said "test" from someone in her bulk mail with an attachment watchout for that name too.
-
It probably will piss them off -- it did mine when I found out they knew one of the passwords and I changed it without mentioning it to them. They weren't supposed to know it in the first place and now they have to turn around so they can't see the password when I let 'em on. 8)

Ha. SCO should've known better. They've been ticking off hackers for months.
-
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...7/tc_zd/117595 <-- LOL They had it COMING.
I can't wait to watch on the 1st as SCO comes screaching to a halt :) I bet they got everyone workin 24/7 tring to be able to cope with the dos attack.
Personally I have $20 says they get shizzled ;)
-
That ad-aware thingy is awsome Chris, love it. Don't lock your kids comps, thats just mean.
-
I don't lock theirs. It doesn't have net access. I lock mine, which does. They can blow up their computer for all I care. I have a spare ready to put in its place, but not for mine.
I'm with Chris, SCO should've been beefing up their defenses before they started this crap with telling the world open source is bad and claiming patents for Linux source.
-
lol yep... Linux is the ultimate in open source, anything you wanna do or can do to it... YOU CAN DO. Anyone who tries to take that away is going to have to deal with the results of their actions. Seeing as about 95% of all true hackers have atleast one *nix (or BSD, also open source) box running, with just the hackers thats alotta firepower against SCO. Plus they have the worm thats gaining strength every day. I got a copy of it earlier and safely debugg'd it in java to look at how it was written. I'm 1/2 tempted to infect myself just to aide in their plan as I totally support it. But knowing what its made of I'll be able to remove it after the main attack.
Its like Mircosoft attackin Mike Rowe (www.mikerowesoft.com) because his company and website SOUND Like microsoft. Yeah he's a lil 17 year old kid in canada that is getting threats from Microsoft to shut down his business and surrender the domain name. Like he said I'd tell Microsux to blow it out their @$$.
Yet another reason not to mess with haxxorz :) They're like drugs... your better off when u leave them alone ;)
-
l33t!
I heard the Mike Rowe thing. That's just petty, but on the other hand there is a legal obligation to pursue dilution of trademark or they lose standing next time around if someone tries to run Mikrosoft or something.
-
84 messages I've gotten so far with this darn worm!!! When will it end?
-
i must be lucky,my hotmail account is as dead as always.Must be filtering out all the crap really well, still no virus-not that im complaning.
but wow 84!! id hate to go through all those and see whats a virus or not.
-
Emroul sent me a virus! Ahhh!
-
Pirranha,
I don't really have to look at them because they're all messages from people I don't know with attachments. It's pretty easy. I'm up over 100 this morning. I blocked them all from coming through on the mail server I run at work, but it's a little harder to do for my personal email. Still, it's annoying to see 15 new copies of the virus in my inbox when I get up in the morning.
-
Well the attack was/is successful. http://www.sco.com is not found :) Here's hoping the headache its causing will persuade them to reconsider their attempt to lay claim to the UNIX, linux, bsd type enviroment!
<raises glass>
HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
-Chris
-
Ha! You're right; they are down for the count.
