Does anyone know of a couple good free/shareware photo editing programs that could be used to edit snake pics and making some flyers/banners/avatars?

    Gimp is a free one

I am a huge fan of Pixlr, and use it when working on art when on computers that don't have Photoshop. This one is also really nice because it is web-based and one of only a handful that allows you to use layers. It also mimics many of the Photoshop tools!

I also, of course, second the suggestions for GIMP. Gimp is pretty awesome!

I use the Pixelmator app on my Mac.

Adding again because apparently the internet or website had to take a moment to laugh at me...

PAINT sure has come a long way

GIMP is pretty good for a free program, but all the free programs are pretty limited so it really depends on how professional of a final product you're going for.

Also keep in mind that the high end ones from Adobe both have a free trial, so in theory, you could download Photoshop Elements CS 6 (the best editing software out there) use it for 30 days doing as many pics as you possibly can, then download Adobe Photoshop Elements (Runner up) for the next 30.

Everything is free*... You just gotta know where to get it...:ninja:

    So I use Photoshop.

*Mackynz does not in any way condone the "Free" acquisition of expensive software, the preceding was merely a factual statement.

If you did not you would not even mention it in the first place, so I will remind you and everyone else of this

As you quoted, the rule is:

I fail to see where I promoted anything illegal. In fact I said I was NOT promoting it. If you can point me to where I was promoting it or where in the TOS it says that I can't make mention even when not promoting it I would gladly submit. But as of now, unless the TOS were recently changed and members weren't notified (which would be kind of silly) I have not promoted anything, linked anything or encourged anything illegal. As per the TOS.

It's like getting upset at people making reference to drugs when talking about getting a scale to weigh snakes (see any scale thread), mentioning it and saying "you should totally do this" are to very, very different things.

And you did not if you had you would have received a warning or a infraction however you were walking on a very thin line with the very first sentence which leave very little to the imagination hence why I am reminding you and others of the rules.

    +1

Except in some cases, I find Gimp is better than PS. (When making quick highlights, changing focus) If I had to choose one that would be more user friendly and get's the job done in a quick efficient manner, I'd choose PS, but, if you want a free program, Gimp is your go to application. It all depends if you're wanting to pay for the speed of which you can get your job done.
