    Smell Help
So yesterday before me and the fam went to a car show I cleaned Fangs cage and all was good. Well later when we got back my wife and son said his room smelled like a dead mouse. So I went in my son's room and sure enough his room and Fangs cage stunk I opened up his enclosure and and fang was in his hide that he does not use all the time so I cleaned out his other cave one as pee was sitting in it. Now it still smells is there anything that can be done to help to control odors as such in there? I use paper towels and he is in a boaphile cage up for ideas.

I feel aspen controls odor way better than paper towels, and fabreze the room.

I did frebreeze my sons room but the odor is still in fang enclosure, at one time in his tank I used eco-earth but that I felt would be to hard to clean plus would add way to much humidity. Aspen I may have to go back to as well it would be easy to clean that out some what

You're going to have to wash everything the pee touched. If it was soggy then the spot under the paper towel and the cave. Thats the only other solution I can think of.

He was in one of the caves that the top comes off and the bottom does not reach the paper towels I washed that thing good with soap and hot water for a while but I think because the smell was in there for maybe a couple of hours it is just lingering in there. I knew something was up besides the smell because if he poops in there or around his cave he goes to the other hide until it is cleaned.

I can't imagine what is causing the odor. I keep 8 snakes in my reptile room and never have any odor whatsoever. I check their tubs every morning and every night - if any of them have any urine or poop I immediately clean their tub. No smells ever linger in the snakeroom.

I use Aspen in some tubs and kraft paper in others.

Maybe the smell is coming from somewhere else other than the snake cage.

Good luck with solving this mystery.

X2 if it smells like a dead mouse then it probably is a dead mouse. Start looking around the cage first, since that's where you think the odor is coming from. I didn't even think of this til I read L.West post. Good call.

I did look around the cage he ate his mouse not in there at all and its not that strong were it is coming into the room any more , its just lingering in his enclosure. His urine stunk more then his poop did for some odd reason. The enclosure is just holding the smell more then I thought it would.

My rack had the dead mouse smell. I found a half eaten fancy mouse under it. My old almost blind siamese cat got into one of my mouse tanks and ate half the mouse...

You might just need to clean better. Only time I can smell anything from mine is when I open a tub and someone has left a big steamer. Go visit Reptile Basics website. They have a cleaner called F10, works great. Also, if you can't clean your hides thoroughly, maybe you should ditch those and get new. Again, Reptile Basics has some awesome black ones. They look like this (and are super easy to clean)-http://img.tapatalk.com/aeffa1de-3acf-07d5.jpg

I use vinegar based cleaner followed by F10. I find the F10 may not get all the smell out, but the vinegar based stuff will. Also wipe the bottom of the rack shelf above your tub if it is in a rack as stinky condensation can get up there after a good pee.

Probably just less ventilation and a real stinker combined to make the odor last a little longer.
