Reptile Auctions
Yes or no? I know to stay away from ballbids but are there any that are good or come recommended or should they not be considered at all?

If you know a breeder. And they have a Facebook. Some of them have auctions on their Facebook.

Ben Siegel Reptiles has pretty cool auctions on his Facebook page every day.

I don't buy snakes from anyone's auction, but that's just me, I'm very picky about who I buy from and what I buy, auctions rarely ever have the quality of snake I'm looking for.
Nothing against them otherwise...

Yeah I have never considered it before but I am more looking for possibly a new pet. It would have to be one nice lookin ball, blood, or boa to get me to buy from an auction. I was just wondering if anybody had first hand experience and whether it was good or bad. But I am also very picky about the snakes I purchase...

This is the one I have been perusing for the past couple days...

It depends on how its run. If reputation is established, and people and bidders are held accountable then it's safe a good. The BOI on fauna plays a big role in it. I, in fact, helped a woman from being scammed because of a bidder with an established history of being a scammer and fraudulent.

x2 i agree with this^
I see BSR's facebook auction everyday. Im not saying the that all the animals he auctions off are crappy, but at the same time ive never once found one that i liked enough to bid on... Maybe im just too picky though

Keep perusing! I watch them every day and have seen some AMAZING looking animals. It just depends on the day. Anything you get from Ben Siegel would be in good condition though. I've seen many of his animals in person and in my experience, they are always healthy. The ones he brings to shows make me drool. His was the only table at the last Repticon I would have purchased a ball from had I been allowed. :gj:

I love checking out the auctions but I've never bid on anything. I don't really have a lot of room in my home extra animals. Every snake has to be one that I really want and I don't see many that I really want on the auctions.
I'm not saying that they don't have good snakes, I see some really nice ones sometimes. But they're always not exactly what I'm looking for. If I only have the space for, say, one female pied, then that female pied has to be exactly what I want. I don't have room for one that's exactly what I want and half a dozen that are "let's breed them and see what we can do with them." If I had unlimited resources and space to devote to snakes, I might pick some up at auctions if they were being auctioned by a breeder I'd do business with anyway.

Most of the FB auctions seem underwhelming.
Ben Siegel Reptiles, however, has really done some amazing things. Not necessarily animal wise, it seems to be a lot of lower value stuff, but he has completed over 10,000 (!!) auctions through his Facebook page, and that is just impressive. What an amazing sales tool he has created.
He has certainly found and developed that niche, and he is catering to that customer. I'm very impressed with that from a business standpoint.

NERD has auctions on occasion. IMHO I'd check fauna and see their feedback before participating in an auction whose name I don't know.
