    Nameology Thread
    Yes, that is a Boondock Saints reference!

    What are the names of your animals and how did you come up with the names?

    I like to name my animals something that goes back to what they are either as a species or a morph.

    Nutmeg - Female Cinnamon - Another brown spice.

    Serine - Female Spider - Serine is the prmary amino acid found in the silk of spider's that is used for wrapping egg sacs, wrapping prey and constructing web attachment lines.

    Gypsos - Male Pastel - Gypsos is the Greek word for gypsum, which is a mineral that can be used in mixing pastel colored paints.

    I'm thinking about naming the male VPI axanthic that I'm getting when I get home Oreo (black and white, get it?). Don't know what I'm going to name the female fire that I'm getting.

    So how about everyone else?

    Bacardi, Corona, Skyy, Gin, Tequila, Cosmo, Amaretto, Stoley, Kahlua, Midori.... The list goes on and on. As you can tell, I name my snakes (the ones that have names) after booze. Why not name one love after the other? I've been considering naming all the male snakes from here on out after Hall of Famers though.

    "is it dead?" yes that's a boondocks saints reference as well.
    Hypo-Yoda, it's greenish and I like star wars
    Lesser- Antilles, lesser Antilles islands
    BCI- Bob the boa. Actually my son named him after sponge bob.
    Mojave-Mackenzie, its my daughters middle name and has a nice ring to it Mackenzie the mojave.
    Spider- wobz.....spider wobble
    Albino boa- Princess.....because she's my princess damn it!
    Normal- Gator, after one of my favorite will Ferrell characters.
    The rest don't have names .....I'll have to come up with something for my Pastel tho.

    I have always enjoyed Norse mythology, so I named mine Loki (Although everyone will think it was after the Avengers :( (Great movie though))

    He is a trickster and mischievous, kind of like my BP.

    Vimes (bp)- aka Commander Samuel Vimes, the badass leader of the Ankh-Morpork police force in the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
    Mort (crested gecko)- also a character from Discworld
    Mr. Darcy (bp)- from Pride and Prejudice, because I fell in love with a boy when I wasn't expecting it
    Pippin (dwarf hamster)- from Lord of the Rings, because Pippin the hobbit is tiny like Pippin the hamster
    Saphira (leopard gecko)- from the Inheritance cycle, a super cool dragon that I always pictured having eyes like my girl
    Albus (syrian hamster)- aka Albus Dumbledore.. my sister named him :rolleyes:
    Andariel (tarantula)- the first Lesser Evil you fight in Diablo 2

    Names are fun :taz:

    I like to use names from Roman and Greek mythology. I'm currently running through the planets, which were all named for gods anyway. I named my latest addition, Jupiter. My next one will be named Saturn if it's a Pinstripe combo or Pluto if it's a Pied combo.

    I realize Pluto is no longer considered a planet, but it was a planet for most of my life, so I still count it:D

    In 5th grade i had to do the stupidest project on planets. Making one of those mobiles with 2 hangers and all 9 planets on it. Pluto is a planet and will always be a planet imo.

    "Nucky" - Pinstripe Male - Boardwalk Empire reference...he wears pinstripe suits
    "Ellen" - Pinstripe Female - She likely does too :)
    I have "Tara", "Jax" and "Gemma" from SOA
    I have "Penny", "Bernadette" and "Amy" from Big Bang

    Then the rest of my females are named after hot 30-40 year old actresses...Drew (Barrymore), Julianne (Moore), Molly (Parker)...the list goes on.

    I've even got some weird names the kids did.... "Crayon", "Captain America", "Stain", "Roxy"

    I believe I even have a "Snakie" in there somewhere.

    Mischief and Mayhem - Bought them together from the same breeder and they live up to their names! The both went off feed around the same time together, although have since started to eat again. They both are super wild looking normals with a ton going on.

    Vicious - When I pulled her out of the snake bag the day she arrived, the little thing struck at me so hard she flipped herself completely over. Made me laugh really hard and the name stuck. She is one of the sweetest snakes I have now lol

    Vengeance - Feisty little girl who is the only one who still strike at people pretty often.

    Simba - He has a lion face on the side of his head.

    Itsy Bitsy - Itsy Bitsy spider went up the water spout.....

    Trigger - He was a trade who has a lot of attitude. He has a hairpin trigger so his name fits.

    Iris - is the personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods in mythology. She is a Brazilian Boa.

    [QUOTE=Kaorte;1855532]most of mine are named after TV show Characters, but not all Starbuck: Battlestar Galactica (call sign) QUOTE]

    We have a Starbuck as well, but ours is a retired racing greyhound. Our other greyhound is Skylar, but she came with that name.

    My original ball python is Kolbe, named oddly enough, after a Catholic saint. My current ball python is Kira from the book We the Living by Ayn Rand.

    Our cats are Andromeda and Henry Fitzroy (after the vampire, not the historical figure). We have an Amazon parrot named Bandit (because of his blue mask) and a European starling named Mozart.

    We also have three iguanas. Our two rock iguanas are Kismet (named by Melissa Kaplan when I described the story of how we got her on a list) and Sebastian d'Anconia (after a character in Atlas Shrugged). In the past I also had a bird named Dagny and a dog named Frisco from that same book. My blue phase green iguana is named Tazumal, after a Mayan ruin in El Salvador, where he is from.

    When my daughter (now 18) was five, she got interested in tarantulas and her first few spiders were named Fluffy, Spot, and Fido because she loved the irony. She also had one named Zebracakes after the Little Debbie snack. (Fluffy and Spot are still with us). We also had a Hagrid, and an Aragog in the past.

    I do love naming things!

    I forgot to mention my husband's turtles. He has a Sulcatta named Ricochet (he came to us with that name because he walks into things and then backs up, a rescued slider named Pleasedontdie, and boxies named Cera, Crown, Darwin. One of those three females has a baby named Miracle, who was so named because our male had been gone for a year when we found a hatching boxie in the pen. There are a few other turtles but I'd have to has my husband their names!

    My snake names are somewhat corny and typical (although you won't find a Monty or Nagini anywhere nearby). Pardon me if I get a little verbose with my explanations. I'm obsessed with duality in names, so all three have at least one dual meaning.

    Riddle - When I got my first snake, I knew I wanted something mysterious and quirky -- a riddle is the perfect mixture of the two. Simple but enigmatic. I kept thinking of Gollum's "tricksy" riddles from The Hobbit, how he unwittingly lost the ring to Bilbo. It's a simple and silly tale of a halfling discovering a shiny trinket and putting it in his pocket; but on a much larger scale, it's the beginning of a dangerous, deceitful, and tortuous journey.

    And although I'm a Harry Potter fan, I actually keep ending up with these HP-like names on accident (my cat's name is Luna, haha). Not intended at all, though it's a neat bonus I suppose.

    Eve - Fairly common, but meaningful in my mind. I was still very new to snakes and totally intrigued by the Biblical stigma associated with them. Obviously, the story goes that the human Eve is tricked by a serpent into eating and sharing the fruit, and all sin is conceived. From then on, Eve and the serpent are to exemplify original sin itself. So basically, I combined them.

    I also strongly considered Hester as a name for her - if you're familiar with The Scarlet Letter, it shares many aspects with Eve's story: sin, punishment, blame, burdens, and nature. Eve and Hester are both monumental scapegoats. Neither woman is given the mercy of forgiveness or even a chance at redemption. My own innocent Eve, however, will be free of this sin... despite her direct relation to it (being female and being a snake, I say that puts her pretty close to the "root of all sin" as told, eh? ;) )

    Ember - When I got her she was a mere 8 weeks old and the runt of the litter. I went through tons of names in my head before I suddenly got this one to stick. She was tiny and frail, but at the same time, bright and lively. She has continued to be her little sparky self so the name is turning out to be perfect.

    One day she may be 8 feet long, but she'll still have her name to testify to her humble beginnings. "A mighty flame followeth a tiny spark."

    covah-pariah
    Re: Nameology Thread
    All three are normals, unsexed but just call them males for simplistic sake, and are caged together since I got them as babies.
    Pariah- because snakes are like the outcasts of the pet world. He was my first, and he lives up to his name by going off on his own and hiding in the cage and not liking to be picked up but tolerates after you have him.

    Covah- havoc spelled backwards, just thought it was a cool name but he lives up to it in the fact his name is the inverse of havoc and so is he.

    Sajah- wanted to keep with the names ending in "ah" and had a friend with a dog named Dajah, so I changed the d of the dog to s for the snake and called (originally thought it was a girl) her Sajah. The j is pronounced as in déjà vu.

    CovaH and Sajah are from the same clutch and came a month after Pariah.

    My collection had their names taken from a movie I like a lot, Princess Mononoke.

    After going through the main characters pretty quickly, I started going through the credits for smaller characters, and eventually into production people. Only a few of my main collection are NOT currently named after the movie, one is my eyeless normal Athena.

    When I first adopted her, though she was tiny and handicapped, she was such a strong spirit and a true fighter, so it was easy to pick Athena: Greek goddess of War, Wisdom, Courage, Inspiration, Strength and Skill. It fits her to a "T".

    The other two not named after the movie still sound like they could be from it. Mori my fire female. She was a rescue, and severely underweight. She had been starved for so long, I honestly believe she would have eaten herself to death if I had let her. Every feeding day, she wanted more, more, more. Hence Mori.

    And Sumi my reduced pattern pinstripe. I got her at Tinley last October. My husband wanted to know why I wanted her after I had just bought a Butter female the first day of the show. I looked him in the eyes and said, "Yeah I know I didn't need another snake, so sue me." And Sumi she became. :P

    My first BP was named Nero - Since it was a regal name (going off of the Royal Python Name)

    ...And since it was Roman so it kinda reminded me of Cleopatra, who was fabled to wear a BP about her wrist. (I know they weren't directly related or anything, but I liked Nero better than something such as Mark Antony or Julius, etc)

    Re: Nameology Thread
    We've been naming ours based on personality traits they show within the first day or two - we'll normally hold off on definitely naming until we feel like we've settled on an appropriate name.

    Therefore...

    0.0.1 Normal - Houdini - We got him from a pet store, and I fell for him when he played peek-a-boo with me for about 5 minutes, and then did everything in his power to escape from the cage. And then from everywhere we've put him since. Therefore, he's our little escape artist!

    1.0 Bumblebee - Recon - He's very skittish so far, but what he'll do is poke his head out of his hide, look around, go back in. Poke out a bit farther, go back in. Poke the first third of his body out, hover in mid air, go back in. Make a lap of the tank, switch hides, and hide for a few hours. Rinse and repeat. He likes to recon his tank.

    0.1 Normal - Prada - She's a 2129 gram adult we picked up at Repticon CenTex this weekend, and while I ran back inside to ask a question and use the restroom before we headed back to Dallas, Jarred and a friend took her out in the parking lot to give her a chance to get some fresh air before being in a pillow case for 3 hours. Jarred handed her to me while we were getting in the car, and she immediately wrapped her tail around the strap of my designer purse and refused to let go of it - she apparently wanted a purse of her own. :P Therefore, she got a designer purse brand as a name (and because Jarred didn't find Coach acceptable for a girl).

    Love it when old threads get resurrected.

    I'm not too clever in the naming department so I went with Greek mythology for most of the names.
    Fire = Hestia
    Coral Glow = Kraken
    Mojave = Athena
    Butter =Dionysus
    Super Pastel = Asteria
    Enchi = Hera
    Spider = Morpheus (from the Matrix, my first morph so I wanted something with morph in the name)
    Normal = Ekans (Pokemon snake character or Snake backwards, my 8yo son named it)

    Mine are simply just old english names.

    Victoria = Vanilla+? (The Breeder is still working to prove something out that this girl may be carrying.)
    Prudence = Vanilla (This girl has a very spotnose-ish look to her pattern and hope it passes to the offspring.)
    Emily = Pastave
    Nigel = Fire
    Reginald = Leopard Pinstripe
    Perry = Pastel

    I only have one, Quetzalcoatl, named after the Mesoamerican feathered snake god. I chose the name long before I chose the snake-- and yes, I realized my mistake in the difference between the origin of the god and the origin of the snake. Oops.

    But with future snakes I plan to keep up the deity theme. Nothing cooler than a snake named after a god imo. ^__^

    Lilly - Lesser female BP - The letter "L"

    Love some of these names!! I'm seeing a lot of creative and cute names. :)

    Osiris---My cat. He went unnamed for a couple months as a kitten, going by "demon kitty" because of his personality. I landed on egyptian mythology because...well, cat...and Osiris because he is the god of the underworld (and life and rebirth as well) and demon = the underworld. It was a joke at first, but it stuck. :)

    Merlin---Dog. This one was also a joke after we went through a dozen other names, and likewise, it also stuck.

    Matika---First snake ever, normal female. Matika is the name of the tarantula in the movie "Jungle 2 Jungle", which was one of my favorite movies. :D

    Draco/Draccy---Draco from Dragonheart.

    Lara Croft--- Normal female someone found wandering loose in their yard, underweight and injured and missing the tip of her tail. I took her in, and she was just always so feisty! Definitely a fighter, and it fit. She's a gorgeous girl now, beefy and with her scars, but strong for it.

    Thor---Lesser Cinny male. He is blond. And I like Avengers, okay? XD

    Can't wait to see everyone else's names!

    My pets have a bunch of random names.

    Jasper - our puggle basset hound mutt, because he is red and it's kind of an older country name.

    Miso and Banzai - our cats, with Japanese names as an homage to my childhood cat Sumo. Miso is a Tofu colored tabby, and Banzai... well, she's a bit special and comes running into rooms meowing her kitty war cry.

    Tiberius - a blue tongue skink after Capt. Kirk.

    Now for the snakes.

    Tupac Snakur - my first snake, a super pastel.

    Trouser - a rescued female who came to us with her name, and it just seemed to fit her.

    She Hulk, aka Large Marge - a 2000g normal girl.

    Felicia - a fire, named after a Party Down South reference. She has quite an attitude.

    Vernon - a black pastel het pied male named as a tribute to an awesome customer service rep who helped my boyfriend out, believe it or not!

    And finally,

    Seven - a mojave male with two big 7's down his back.

    My snakes are named after some of my favorite characters from movies or games.

    1. Levi - normal. Named after a badass character from an anime called Attack on Titan. His personality is just like his, super nonchalant and sweet as can be.

    2. Bubo - Bumblebee. Named after the Owl in the old Clash of the Titans movie. Bubo was very goofy in the movie and my Bubo is very goofy too due to his head wobble :)

    3. Sheik - Yellow Belly. Named after another badass character in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, and Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl. She's just like the character because she is super fast like a little ninja. Plus she's not afraid to bite lol. I will also be naming one of her daughters Zelda [emoji4]

    4. Delilah - Butter Fire. Kinda named after the song Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's because Delilah is the sweetest most curious little snake I've ever seen. She's always happy and wanting to explore :)

    These snakes are in the order that I acquired them. This is a really cool thread :)

    My two snakes are named after characters from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. Nessie is named after a warlock named Magnus Bane, and Izzy after Isabelle Lightwood. However, I think my multigene male (no solid plans for him yet, but i'm hoping for a cinnypin or sterling pin if i'm lucky) will be named Baelfire after a character from Once Upon A Time.

    I just really like occult fairytales, okay? haha
