    Question about HET Piebald
i just found an add for a 1 year old HET Piebald for a "rehoming fee" of $50.00. i am getting it either way HET or not. but what i need to know is .......is there anything that i should look for?

By definition an animal that is het (Heterozygous Recessive) is visually no different from a normal animal.

Some people say that there are some "markers" that may help Identify Het Pieds, but there is no way to tell for sure just by looking at the snake. You need to either know what the parents were, or breed it to a visual (or another het) pied.

What % het is this Bp being sold as? (50%, 66%, or 100% het)

For one thing I'd check over the animal for mites. Also I'm not sure if you have an established collection already but proper quarantine is a must if you do. Is this a Craiglist ad? If so be careful with the whole het thing unless it comes with paperwork from a reputable breeder. Good luck.

thats a big 10-4 on the mites. and it is a CL add. would breeding with a normal show PIED results? and i do have a collection, a small one, but its a start. Lol

If I have genetics right, you'd have to pair with a het piebald or a visual pied to prove him/her out

he did not say the %, i will ask lots of questions. obviously if it is poor health i want to know why as well as look at the rest of his/her collection

    No

Here are the only ways to produce a visual pied from a het pied (if this one even is a het)

Yeah i have a female that is het pied and I really dont see much of a difference. I am not a believer of hets showing markers but that could just be the fact that I am still fairly new to this too...

Not it will no you would need to breed him to a het pied female to the very least.

Additionally do yourself a favor if you are looking to purchase a het given how affordable het pieds have become, purchase it from a reputable breeder and not from CL, this might save you time and disappointment in the future.

since it is recessive, breeding with a normal would give you I think 25% hets.

Ok guys, so i just got the "HET pied" home. As i was looking at him i noticed some "markers", first, the clover shaped pattern on his head, alot of speckles on his belly as well as a pinkish color, he just shed (6/15) so i know that its not the start of a shed cycle, and he is a little darker then normal. He is in great health. The husbandry was all proper.

You can't just upload them... You need to host the pictures on a site like photobucket first.

This thread goes over the process step by step.
