This is why i need more ball pythons...

So after finally getting sam to eat on his own a few nights ago, i couldn't hold him for at least two days so he could digest. NOW he is shedding...blah. I just wanna hold my baby.

I tried to rationalize with the wife that this is the reason why i need lots and lots of ball pythons, but she isn't budging. Anyone wanna discreetly ship me a new baby ball python? you could label the box as "shoes" or something :P

Lol. Yup. I've had this problem. Sad news is that it doesn't go away with multiple snakes. I gauge who I'm going to handle by who looks like they are guna poo, if they are in shed, or I'd they're digesting. In 13 snakes it's usually only 1 or 2 to choose from lol. I was excited to be able to hold my boa yesterday because she has been saving up her poo and finally got rid of it. Woo

I know where you're coming from, at least with trying to talk the spouse into more snakes. Right now she is cool with two more, which will be for sure a male VPI axanthic so I can try to prove out my female spider 50% het VPI and then probably a female fire so that I can grow her up and then find a fire male to work on a black eyed leucistic. I've pestered and begged and made deals like doing the dishes for a month, which worked, and I've also just brough home new snakes a few times. I had to lie about how I got them and how much I paid for them but she eventually found out and I was in serious trouble! That method is NOT recommended. LOL

Feed night and following days suck. I have 6 bps and a boa, can't hold anybody till Friday night. So I hear ya :(

I'm with you. We are getting our first BP soon and I am already wanting another. My wife is not happy with one and is dead set against any more, so we'll see who wins out in the end. I did just get a great deal on two new tanks so I will have one empty just in case...

i'm probably just gonna wait until next tax time for my 2nd bp (and 3rd and 4th etc) i really want to get into breeding, and that will give me time to do alot more research, as well as build my own rack system and save up for some animals. im thinking to start with i'll need at least one pastel (opposite sex of whatever sam turns out to be) one clown, one spider, and one pied. Any suggestions as to what my first collection should consist of would be greatly appreciated tho =)

My wife was very strict about no more snakes as well. I took her to a reptile expo and the whole time we are driving down all she could say was no more snakes, no more snakes----. Well long story short she found a pewter she liked then I showed her a better quality Black Pewter and now we have 4 snakes and plans for a few more with breeding hopefully this fall:) So I would advise give her a little time and take her to an Expo let her see what is out there she might suprise you :D

Oh dear...be careful about having empty tanks lying around...you might catch Empty Tank Syndrome.

ETS: The compulsive desire to fill empty tanks with more snakes. :P

Congrats on the new snake. I feed all of my snakes on Friday or Tuesday usually (though I switch it up now and then so they don't get stuck on a set day). My boas had figured out exactly which day was feeding day, and were a little too nippy on those days for my liking. So now I go out of my way to confuse them. :D

At any rate, I feel your pain. I HATE the two days where I can't handle them. I always seem to want to hold them more on those days. :rolleyes:

Or you could do what I do and buy a new snake and then tune her out when she is yelling at you. Lol... I actually dont have a problem my wife is totally into it so I guess I am a lucky one. :)

As long as i pay for everything (so i obviously have to have a job lol) and my schoolwork doesnt suffer at all my parents could care less how many snakes i have. Im 19 though and in college so i can pretty much do what i want i guess. But since i live with them i do my best to respect their wishes.

Now i just kinda find a woman whose into herps too so i wont have to do the tuning out thing... Lord knows i already have that perfected with my mother lmao!

My girlfriend told me "NO MORE SNAKES!!!" when I only had 6. I have 12 now and more coming. I live by the "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" rule. It's worked pretty well so far. It also helps that she loves snakes. She gets mad for a second until she sees the new baby and then it's all good lol. :D:D

Hubby says no more snakes till I start breeding my own feeders. I agree with the idea of taking her to a show. Thats how I got my husband more interested. Mind you he only claims one of the 8 bps I have, but I think that will change in September when we go to our next show.

Wow, I was just trying to come up with some ways to guilt my girl into letting me get more pets. I guilted her into the first one. Just had to tell her that I've wanted a snake since before I could remember, and there hadn't been anything else I'd wanted for longer. But that was true, and now I have to make something up...

I hope this thread lasts awhile! Anyone else have any tips for manipulating friends and loved ones for the sake of the hobby?

I've got plenty of tips for manipulating parents.... in the process of executing some of them right now :gj: Not sure they'd work on other loved ones though due to their nature.

I've found that talking about them non-stop works pretty well. Not quite manipulating, more like irritating them into acceptance ;) After talking about a new reptile every time I open my mouth, everyone seems to appreciate the few days of silence after I finally go and get it :rofl:

My parents pretty much know that every expo i go to i either come home with more friends or more food for friends...:D

Two days later and it was feeding day...Of which "Hunter" mastered his first meal with me...He finally took a frozen/thawed & warmed up fuzzy, constricted for 2-3 minutes and continues to try and swallow the mouse from the middle of its spine (from the back.) After the mouses stomach WARNING GRAPHIC "leaked it's entrails" he was able to use the floor of the tub for leverage and the mouse folded up like a sandwich and was finally swallowed. The whole time (approx. 1/2 hour) I just wanted to help him, but kept my hands to myself. 2 days after that he started to shed...again I can't hold him. Needless to say...I'm taking him out tonight come H_ _ _ or high water!! LOL. I'm such a new snake owner...it's nice to know I'm not the only one that's excited to spend time with their snake. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't read the second page, but... If you want a snake that is actually entertaining to handle get a boa. They are actually very active and "hold on" so they won't fall. I love my bp's, but they are completely different when it comes to handling my boa.

I just blather, and beg, and suck up until I get the reluctant okay. I never reconfirm. I got the okay I needed! If I can't get the okay...well...I "get my mom to get it for me". lol. That actually was my mother's idea. When I wanted my second boa, I told her my fiance wasn't okay with it. She said, "Well...if I buy it for you, she can't say squat!" I love my mother. :D

Last expo I went to though, I was strictly forbidden (post-boa) to get another animal. I pestered via text message and cute picture messages until I got my way. Once I got home with the crestie...she was like..."Oh...it's not so bad. It's tiny." WIN.

I would really like to bring a snake home from the next expo, but Crestie needs a new cage. Besides...I've already pushed my bargaining chip for a puppy for graduation with the fiance. So I'm thinking another snake is a "no go" right now. lol.

I waited until my mom was with me on vacation and was 'relaxing' then i persuaded her into it. Mind you I've been bugging her for a month non stop and since I'm living at home with her, a snake fearing step dad and two snake phobic step brothers so we are keeping my second and third snakes a secret until they are 'found out'. So, secretly, my mother is on my side but she has to play both sides of the court. And I'm eighteen! I have a boyfriend but I totally know what it's like to be at home and trying to talk a family into more 'friends' so I have a few tips if you need some.

I'm about to have the "I am going to breed my snakes" conversation with my mom (I'm a single mom and live with her). I know it doesn't start out this way, but I'm going to throw the $$$ card into it. I mean, I contribute to our household and I'm approaching 30. Even if she says no I really don't think that will stop me. I just got my spider this week and she's on vacation. I didn't MEAN to keep it from her, but I didn't want her to go on her vacation all mad because I got another snake. I'll tell her when she gets home.
