Something interesting I got in my email...
I love Caesar too much to stop showing him off. I took a few pics of him a couple days ago to do a little growth rate chart thing (lol), and I think he's doing very well. :) Here is a little pictoral (sp?) timeline of Caesar since I have had him over the past six months. Enjoy. :)

This picture was taken by the breeder I bought Caesar from.

Sorry for the low quality, it took me awhile to grasp how to work the camera!

Poor guy was in shed when I got him, but I HAD to takes pics before I put him up :P Here, and in the two pictures above, he weighs a tiny little 91 grams at one month old.

The next two pictures was when he was 2 1/2 months old, and 136 grams.

He has YET to refuse a tastey meal! :)

These next 2 pictures was when he was 4 months old, at 276 grams. Growing Steadily...

And these two were him eating a big small rat just last night. Told you he likes to eat...

    http://img5.photobucket.com/albums/v...ul/BCI-001.jpg

And, as of two days ago he weighs in at a nice 514 grams. I should start calling him Mr. Chubbs...:P

Wheeew. That was fun. Sorry for so many pics, but you should know me by now :P I'd say he has had a healthy growth rate, for sure. I like to look at the second picture compared to the last two. Man, he's outgrown my hand! LOL...

    Anyway, thanks for looking. :)

Wow- he has grown. He is gorgeous though!!! I dont think we actually realize just how quick they grow until we go through old pics. My 3 have grown tremendously also...

You're so right. They grow up so fast... His head isn't too big for his body now! lol..

It sure is cool to go through old pictures. Man, that's all I've been doing today, LOL! Thanks. :)

Ceasar's looks never cease to amaze me - he's just so pretty!! Who did you get him from?

Hey, thanks guys! :) Marla, he is 6 months old (Born mid-July). Lindsay-I got him CH from a guy in Florida. So, for all I know he could produce Mojaves or Pastels :P (but 1.4 '03's I got from the same guy, and they are all CH, so you never know!)....Wouldn't THAT be a fat chance?

Caeser is one awesome looking feller!!!!

Jennifer, thanks. That is the one cool thing about CH or WC vs. CBB, that you could possibly hit the genetic lottery. ;)

Yeah, what are the chances, like 1/16 in every 800,238,343,204,249?

    But it's still possible. :D

I think the odds are a little better than _that_ that you'd end up with one of the naturally ocurring morphs or variations with a WC or CH, at least as a recessive gene. The thing is, you'd have to breed it and match it up to the right other heterozygous or homozygous snake to know.
  • 01-18-2004, 12:59 AM

Or breed its offspring back with it. ;)
  • 01-18-2004, 01:06 AM
    Marla
Yeah, that! Still, that's only a little better than 50% chance
  • 01-18-2004, 01:19 AM

Yup, but then breed the offspring's offspring back to the original WC specimen...it'll show up sooner or later if it's there. That's how "big breeders" <aka> Bob Clark, prove out Albino, piebald, or any recessive gene for that matter. But there is no real point for me to do that, seeing as how he doesn't look like any wild snake. If he looked like an axanthic or something, I may try that. That's like 10 years or more on ONE project. :sigh:... LOL. Good thing he looks normal. :P

Hee hee. Yeah, but if you have a spare female lying around and an interest in pursuing it, you could. I talked to Alan Bosch and he started out with all hets and poss. hets, no actual morphs.

That's true..I should do it! But then if I'm going to do it for Caesar, I may ask well do it for the other 5 that are females. :sigh: again, lol. But my real plan is to breed my male het albino with the females I have, to get abunch of 50%ers, then breed the female offspring back with the male, and the male offspring back with the female. I really do love albino's out of every other morph (except maybe Super Pastel's and Mojaves, but since there are no hets for either of those excluding pastels, I'm not about to go out and spend $15K on one). Oooh, but a clown is very close second, and those aren't quite as much. mmmmm....... :-\ Man, what am I saying, I'm not Bill gates with T$$$$$NS of moolah, lmao!

LOL. My faves are leucistic and pastel orange ghosts. I told Alan that (he asked) and he said, "you really like the high dollar ones, don't you?" I'm definitely going to have to work my way up, but I may just be able to do that, esp. if the het pied and my other plan work out.

That's cool. Well, if lucies were even out on the market, I may consider it. BUT, they are probably really geneticly (sp?) defective (well, considering that morphs are technically "defects") but, the two or three that they have hatched out in the past, hatched out dead or "retarded". So, I'm sure nobody is going to put those bad boys on the market until there is a definate proven line of undefective animals one after the other; and that could take a while.

Oh, and who could forget about killer bee's WHEEEEEEW! Those are some killer (no pun intended ) ball pythons! LOL...

I hadn't heard the live ones were mentally defective in any way. That's unfortunate. Maybe if they could get one to breed, they could work with the offspring and have them turn out okay. The killer bees are sweet. I like the striped and the patternless a lot, too.

    Shedding question
Ok, after looking around acouple sites, I'm not exactly sure if the lucies that did hatch out were "mentally retarded"; I did hear it from somewhere though, but I don't remember where. I do know there were some that died right after hatching, or died through the incubation process. It's very sad. :(

I figured they were just holding onto them to breed because there were so few of them produced so far. I know I would until I had a proven line working.

No kidding, so would I. They could also put a so-called "price tag" on it for like $150,000 like they did for the lucy Varanid. No one in their right mind is going to pay that much for it, so that gives the breeder time to breed it out. AND if someone has lost their mind (lol) that's $150,000 in the breeders pocket, and the guy who bought it wont even know if it's proven! LOL!

That's true. How did they produce them, anyway? Wasn't one of them just a surprise?

Yup, I'm pretty sure. I believe Bob Clark imported one, as well. I bet he paid quite a bit for that lovely guy!

Oh I'm sure he did. Bob Clark has the resources to take advantage of an opportunity like that, though. I couldn't do it if I was offered the chance.

Unfortunately all too true. At least with bp's the value can be self-propagating. Breeding is like earning interest on an investment.
