No follicle virgin - still breed-able?
    Hi guys,

So im wondering I have a 14 year old virgin female ball python that I have never felt follicles in and I was wondering if she needs follicles to breed her first year? She is 1500 grams.

Follicles develop in the breeding process. When they develop follicles they will always be on the cool side and you may notice that she has lumps. She's a little old for 1500 grams isn't she. Sometimes older females produce more deformities in babies. Just think about it :gj:

yeah she could breed. if you get lucky. i got a 14 year old girl which in ball python years is still young and she weighs 4000+ grams my scale maxes out at 4000 and i think she wont go this year. its up to them if they are going to go.

Some females need a visit from a male to get going......

I'm wondering why she's only 1400 grams at 14 years old? Is that normal?

She could just be a small female. Not all girls get up to 2000+

She might just be a small female. I would try to breed her if you want, I don't even feel for follicles, I just breed once they hit the size/age I like and let nature do its thing.

I was curious about the same thing when i first adopted her. I adopted her two years ago, and she was only 1300 grams. Her previous owner only fed her small mice, when she was ready for larger rats. She does go off feed every winter, which also contributes to her weight. Funny thing is she looks like a very healthy BP, not skinny at all.

I have a 10 year girl at 1500g that's never been bred before this year that's about to drop her first clutch ever in about 9 days.

Some girls are just small. It's more about sexual maturity that size.

And I agree, throwing a male in might stimulate her.

    Not an unreasonable observation.

Who sexed the snake, when was it sexed and what method for sexing was used?

Actually, you guys are making me question if it's a girl or not. I adopted her from someone you said
She was a girl but I doubt he actually sexed her. When I first got her I popped her and didn't see hemipenes, but I actUally think I did it wrong. I've watched the videos but I still don't think I'm doing it right. Any tips? Should I buy probing kit?

Find a local breeder or reptile store and have them sex it. They usually do it for free or 5 bucks. Peace of mind is a glorious thing.

If it's that old and you try to pop it and don't see hemipenes, you might get some white crusty stuff pop out instead. That's just what you think it is. Snake semen. Ladies don't have it. Enjoy :)

Do you think monster pets will?

P.S any people in Philadelphia want to sex my snake?
