The Strike is Over!
It's amazing how much the time of year affects ball pythons' appetites! All of my male ball pythons with the exception of the baby have been fasting for the past few months. I always offer them food weekly knowing they probably won't want it. And tonight..... all of the sudden..... all of the boys are hungry and accepting food again! The hunger strike is over! Anybody else found the same thing? I guess I better get that order placed with Rodentpro.com very soon!

Re: The Strike is Over!
My male normal just came off a 60 day feeding strike last weekend. I bought a live mouse and thought what the hell, I will give it a go. He actually ate the mouse much to my surprise.

All of my males except the spider have been feeding normally. This spider is driving me crazy though:mad:

My male is also currently on strike and has been for about 3 weeks now. His weight loss is minimal so I am not worried. The female is still pounding rats down though lol

Yeah our Male Spider just took his first meal in alittle over 5 months last Saturday! Hopefully he will eat again this weekend and confirm the end of his fast.

I'm noticing a trend here. My male spider has eaten for 2weeks now. I had to give him live. I will try switching him back to f/t when he puts some weight on. Interesting all the stories here have been male spiders. ??????

10 months!!!! That would frustrate the heck outta me.... :tears:

Now ten months is a long time to fast! I think the longest I've ever had one fast is for about six to seven months...... and he seems to do that every year with no significanct weight loss. It seriously doesn't bother or worry me anymore, because I realize it is normal for him and that he will be fine and resume feeding when he feels like it. And talk about low-maintenance pets! No expense to the owner OR poop to clean up for months at a time!

My FEMALE spider has been off for 5 months now. It's not so weird though, I tried to breed her last season with no results (I actually stopped breeding since she was only 1400grams at that time). It seems like she will only eat the food if I leave it in the tub over night, I have never seen her strike and constrict. Any thoughts about this?
It is not much you can do about ball pythons going off food, sadly. :(

Re: The Strike is Over!
I am soooo frustrated right now - all of my bp's (6 snakes) are not eating right now.
My milksnake and boa eat wonderfully every week. I am beginning to think I should have strictly kept milks and boas - bp's really frustrate me and cause me to worry over them too much.

I have never had a FEMALE go on an extended fasting period for me unless she is gravid. And yes, they can be gravid with slugs. I've had that happen twice now, and they fast for months and lose weight after laying just as if they were fertile eggs. It's a tremendous waste and setback to their bodies all for nothing. Don't be too surprised if she lays you a pile of slugs in the near future. On a more positive note, summer is pretty much here, and ball pythons are usually at their peak appetite during the summer, especially late summer. Hopefully she will come around and start eating for you soon!

My pastel female went off feed right around the time she hit 1000g. She ate only once in 11 months! She lost about 200g and once we got her eating again she has become a little garbage disposal.

I don't know if she is gravid. Last lock up was in January, which is when I pulled her away from breeding. I've seen several lock ups with her, and I must admit I got surprised when she wasn't showing any signs of being gravid (except glowing). She couldn't be gravid right? I mean, I stopped breeding her 6 months ago !
She have never been a good eater with me. When I got her she was about 1400grams, now she is around 1750grams. It's weird, I don't know what I should do really. Perhaps she will start eating again, suddenly.
