Yes it was, nice sight in one day, with all the raccoons and possums around here I was wondering if I would ever see some snakes, well I did :D

Is this one of those times when a single type of snake is known by several different names? Or maybe a locality thing? Down here we've been calling those Eastern Racers (not to be confused with Eastern Indigos) since I was a kid...Was I taught wrong in my youth?

Cool snake :D
I wish I lived over there, all we have over here are garter snakes. I'm not saying they're bad or anything, but, I'd like to see a variety.

They are different it is more obvious when you look at the head, no sure if it will help but you can check them here http://srelherp.uga.edu/snakes/index.htm Black Rat, Black Racer

I am just glad to see snakes in my back yard, and lizards, possums, raccoon etc.....not something you see where I come from so it makes me enjoy it even more.

I am originaly from Michigan so you should be able to find alot of the same species in your area that I used to catch as a kid. You have to get out in the woods, along streams and lakes, and uncultivated fields. But you should be able to find, Fox Snakes, Blue Racers, Eastern Milk Snakes, Hognose, Massasuaga Rattlers, and Northern Water Snakes just to name a few of the larger more interesting ones. Then there are some small ones like Dekays, Red Bellies, Ribbons, and of course Garter Snakes.
Happy Herping
