Something I have been wanting to hatch for a VERY long time!
I opened up this egg a few days ago as I was concerned the baby might have a hard time orienting itself to get out, as it is a "boob egg."

It may not be a fancy morph worth a lot of money...But still, so excited to see a head peeking out...

But even MORE excited to see this...

That's a great pic of the twins. How often dose that happen in ball pythons.

Thanks everybody! I will keep you guys updated, I slit the egg a few days ago to give "it" more room, but this is the first time I've seen a head popping up so I'm not really expecting them to exit the egg til maybe tonight or early tomorrow.

Can't wait to find out weather they are identical or fraternal! Hmm which makes me think, if they are identical would they share likely share the same yolk?

Congrats on the twins!!! Our very first egg to ever hatch was twins! I'll never forget the experience and the twins will never leave our collection.

I'm not sure I have ever seen/heard of identicle twins in BP's. Do they exist? Ours were not identicle.

    Can't wait to see them!

WOW your first egg?? That is crazy! I have honestly been obsessed with hatching a set of twins, haha. Just hoping hoping hoping. Every time an egg that was laid that was larger than the rest I'm always like "DAVE there is totally going to be twins in there, just you watch!" And it never happened. The ironic thing is I think this was the smallest egg of the 7-egg clutch.

As for weather or not they are identical or if it's even possible, I'm not sure! I would assume it must be possible, since it happens in humans but I could definitely be wrong. Now the wait is killing me, I just want to see them out of the egg!

My uncle suggested it could be a 2-headed snake as well :P THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME!

What's really need with twins is when only one egg comes out and you have this nice multi-gene clutch. It's been documented that even though the one baby comes out shows on phenotype, hidden genes may exist in the snake through the sibling DNA that was absorbed. It's been documented in Carpet pythons, so its very well possible with other python species :-)

As far as identical goes, it has been documented fairly well that twins in pythons are genetically identical, but patterns may not be phenotypically identical. They will both generally be the same sex, and same morph. On the other side of the story . . . there is some evidence that suggest twins bred lead to higher chances of twins in their future clutches. While its not understood how it may or may not be heritable. It has been shown when Nick Mutton held back a pair of twins, bred them, and then I think one of their clutches ended up with a set of twins and triplets!

    Congrats :-)

That is so awesome. I have 11 year old human twins, and when they get ready for their own snakes, how cool would it be if I could find twin BPs so they could each have one? Hmmmm, that just got the wheels turning in my cranium :)

Too funny! Also, I'm a *she* lol.

Just thought I'd update everybody. The twins made their way out of the egg sometime during the night, I placed them in a bin w/ wet shop towel until everybody has shed out.

The appear to be healthy and kink-free, which is what I was worried about. However they are VERY small, since they were in the smallest egg of the whole clutch, and there were two inside, I think they're about half the size of the other fatties. It also appears they did not absorb the entire yolk, as there is still a mass inside of the egg. They are quite skinny.

I think I may even try to feed them a live rat pink before their first sheds, as they might be pretty hungry and for my own peace of mind, I'd like to put a few grams on them.

I will definitely post some pics later tonight, I'm just charging the camera battery right now!

When I was double checking them today, I did notice that on the very teeny tip of one of their tails, there is a small little nubbin. So that's a bit disappointing, but honestly it's barely noticeable!

Here is another pic of them in the egg, tomorrow I am going to do a comparison of them with one of their siblings!

That is AWESOME! Not very often that something makes me stop in my tracks but that picture sure did it. I've been impatiently waiting on some of mine to be old enough to breed and to see THAT as a possibility...that's awesome! And that makes me want mine to get to size all the more, lol! CONGRATULATIONS and best of luck with them! :gj:

Nope, these ones looked different, though I wouldn't say that identical twin BPs have never been hatched, because I don't know!

My theory is that each snake was in their own separate "sac" but were then *accidentally* shelled in the same egg. So I guess if you wanted to get really technical, you could say they're not actually twins, they are just 2 snakes that shared the same egg!
