    New tarantula
My parents came home one day last week and presented me with a Texas brown Tarantula (Aphonopelma hentzi) that they found. I have no idea where they found it, either. So, I went and put together a nice little habitat for him.

One old ten gal cricket tank

Add old dirt/gravel mixture from lizard tank

    Plus dirt and burrow

Top it off with a tarantula

My wolf spider died earlier in the week, from what I assume, old age. I suspect that's what prompted it. I'll have to get better pictures of him, but I didn't want to stress him out too badly after the move.

Wow, I'm super jealous! I have a dwarf T, but I'd love to get one as impressive as yours! Your parents are really cool

He's doing nicely. He spends a lot of time wandering around the edge of the tank, but he also eats what I put in for him, so I'm not too worried.

You have really cool parents. Nice looking T too. Will he dig his own burrow?

It came as a bit of a surprise since they're not usually supportive. The burrow is already dug out, so probably not. I haven't seen him use it, yet.

Oh yea i saw the pic wrong, like an optical illusion. I thought it was just like the rim of a piece of plastic sticking out of the ground but now i see where his lil hideout is. Very cool, like the 2nd pic of him.

He's an interesting thing, that much I can say. Acts like a "guard" to my room, too, since I have a few family members that don't like spiders.

I wish my parents were that cool. I wasn't allowed to get my first T until after I moved out. I hate people's irrational fear of jeeps and spiders.

I used to have a little A. hentzi sling that could fit on a dime but my wife managed to kill it when I went to Iraq last year. I am wanting to get another when I get home from Afghanistan later this year. I love them as they are the only tarantula that I've ever seen in the wild and as you know, they are gorgeous!
