Sold as a Pastel
Hi,
I'm new in the forum though I've been a regular visitor. I've waited until now to register because I've just acquired my first snake, a ball python.
The problem is that it was sold as a Pastel, but I have serious doubts it is one.
Could someone tell me if it really is a pastel or a normal? It is about 40cm long.

No Pastel. Nice little Normal.

That is a normal. Where did you get it? I can't believe people would sell a normal as a pastel.

Thanks everyone, unfortunately I was already expecting such feedback..

I didn't buy it, I trade it with a breeder (I'm portuguese, we don't see a lot of BPs around here, other than wc ones and an occasional morph) who actually has a really nice pastel couple, and this one was suppose to be a pastel produced by that couple. I guess he just "forgot" that two pastels can also produce normals.

Sorry for your luck. I don't think he "forgot". If you own a Pastel...You know what a Pastel looks like.

I was being ironic, I'm pretty sure he tried to make a fool of me..

Ahhh....That would explain the "" around "forgot". Gotcha.
It's too bad their are people like that out there. They certainly do no good for the hobby.

What a lousy way to be introduced to the wonderful world of keeping ball pythons.
Truthfully, are you sure his are even pastels ? Maybe they aren't, and he just said that ?
Or maybe he's just a jerk.
Even though it isn't what you hoped for, it really is a lovely little snake and not a bad animal to start your collection with.
Of course, being from another country, your collection may never be as fancy as most collections here in the states, but as long as you love your animals, who cares ?
My own collection will never be as large or as grand as most, but that is ok. I have the handful of animals I want, and they make me happy. Even if I never produce a 7 gene combo first-of-it's-kind.

It IS a great looking normal. I wouldn't even believe the gender that the guy told you.. Sorry you had to deal with the nonsense of horrible people :(.

I'm sorry that someone sold you a mis-labeled snake. But I have got to say, I really like the colors on your little guy. It has a nice tone. Normals are a must have in a ball python collection in my opinion.
My first few balls were morphs before I had the urge to get a normal. Haha.

Re: Sold as a Pastel
I appreciate all you comments!
I'm sure that both my snake's mother and father are pastels, they're really beautiful animals. I've always wanted a pastel to be my first BP since they are quite accessible and a rcool morph to work with... Turns out I will have to wait a little longer.
Thanks everyone

I spent the last 3 years reading a lot about ball pythons. I know my way around genetics and stuff, but one thing I certainly do not have is practical experience.
When I went to pick up the snake, it seemed to have a nice yellow colour, I couldn't see very weel if it had green eyes or not, but I thought I had no reasons to doubt the man.
Next time I'll know better.
