Just wondering what is out there for snakes that stay very small?
A friend was asking and I have no knowledge..........

some kingsnakes don't get over 3 feet in length... same with milksnakes.

Garter snakes.. Rough Green snakes... I don't know if there are very many others. And I do assume you're saying "snakes that stay small" small as in length, or girth? If you mean girth, just about every colubrid stays skinny.

Though I dont think that I would want to keep one as a pet since they hide under stuff all the time but are nice looking and small is the ringneck snake. Usually grow's up to be around 10 to 24 inches in length and not much rounder than a Sharpie pen.

Thats what a few people have said on this site. But it is hard to believe because I have had many, many hognose through my life time and have Never been bit. They do strike for the affect of trying to make you believe they are mean (for protection), but have never been bitten. But...who am I to say that they have never bit someone.

lol, maybe i just got too close during it's "get away from me" times... but yeah, ive taken at least 30 bites from a hognose, and thats no bull. a baby too! (eastern hognose, wild caught)

Oooooppps. Caught my self in a lie. I do know one person that was bit, BUT.....he was holding a toad in his hand feeding it at the time. It was a case of mistaken identity.

Ahhh the eastern hognose.................that's what started this house of snakes I have.
My son cought one up north of here last year, he brought it home for the summer and Jake was his buddy.
I made him release it before winter...............and I was sick of all the toads in my house!

I made it a year and I couldn't handle listening to the pouting 6yr old anymore!
And now I think mom is more hooked than the boy!

Of course the new ball is also Jake..........

The other one is my 16yr old daughters and she hasn't named it yet and it's driving me crazy, I took her cell phone from her until she names it..................lol
I keep calling it Bling, just cause it makes her mad!

What a mean mom I am

    ok, dumb question again........................

What does the 2.0, 1.1 and so on mean when listing your pets???????????
  • 01-10-2004, 12:01 AM
    Wizill
first number stands for male, 2nd number for female and amount of which you own... 3rd number stands for unsexed.

Can't you feed hognose feeder goldfish too? Seems like I saw that somewhere. And Kori, just in case you're not sure what Will meant, 2.1.0 means you have 2 males, 1 female, and zero unsexed, though a lot of people would leave off the .0 and only include it if the number was 1 or more.

I kinda figured that what it was but it didn't always seem true when looking in some ads.

Thanks for the explanations, I've got it now!

I don't think there is room to list my zoo! lol

Yes, the hognose can eat feeder fish but our Jake wouldn't eat them...........

Wow, that is quite the zoo, Kori! How do you manage your menagerie? And with picky eaters to boot! :)

Actually............It's my job that makes me crazy!
And so far I have been lucky with the new additions eating..........
I love animals of all kinds I guess and also have done a lot of rescues.

Well, more power to you for making it work. My job tends to be the easy part my life, in comparison. :)

Kori....Question? You say you have 1.3 Bobcats. Do you mean that you have real bobcats, or are you talking Manx?

When I lived in Florida we had 2 wc females that me and my brother found stranded and in bad shape. We had both of them for nearly 15 year's before they passed away.
  • 01-10-2004, 01:04 AM
    Kori
Yes, they are bobcats, not sure of the % but very awesome animals.
I ended up rescuing them from a very bad lady who was breeding them(after stealing them from the wild as cubs) with maincoon cats and it was a disgusting kitty mill. I bought one and then turned around and reported her and was there to rescue 14 of them when they shut her down. I ended up keeping 4 after a few thousand in vet bills due to coccidia, distemper and a ****load of parasites. I did loose 2 to death and adopted out 8.
My house was really bad for months, I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

They are awesome, very affectionate..........but VERY, VERY, VERY Naughty!

One of my females is about a year or so and she is 38# and I think she may have gotten pregnate by my Ragdoll stud............
NOT by choice but I was out of state on business and came home to a bob in heat and a happy ragdoll!

That's cool. I would love to have another if I could find one as docile as the two we had. They could get naughty also, but on the most part were very loveable. I really think they knew that we saved thier lives and they repayed us by being basically perfect pets. They sure could eat us out of house and home though. And they ruled when it came to what pet was boss of the house.
  • 01-10-2004, 01:28 AM
    Kori
Yeah they definetley rule the house and they all eat me out of house and home!
I need a larger house, everyone tells me we should move into the country and I may need to since I am over limit in everyway for being in the city..............Hell, we aren't even suppose to have snakes or ferrets!
