Hello, My name is Tania and I'm an addict.

I blame you all and this board for my addiction. For making me try so hard and whipping me into submission. I now have 2 beautiful and healthy snakes and about to get a 3rd. Yes, me, getting a 3rd. I'm getting a GTP in the next couple of months but I fear that this is hardly going to satisfy my addiction.

My absolute max is 3 snakes. So how do I cope with this raging clue of an addiction after I get #3? I need tips and maybe even a big sister to call when I'm driving by a herp shop and feeling weak.

Do you have your 2 bps in cages or in a rack?
Racks dont take up that much actual floor space. Like 2' x 3'. And you can stack them up to the ceiling.

hahaha!!! I have them in cages. No rack for me. I will not entertain that notion!! No, 3 is my limit not so much because of space constraints, but because my tolerant husband might file for divorce otherwise. I'm already getting the GTP "behind his back" so to speak. He knows it's coming... he just doesn't realize how soon. Mwahahahahaaaa!!!!!

I also want to be able to provide for all my pets comfortably and keep money aside for emergency vet visits should they ever arise. I don't want my time and money to be spread too thin, kwim? Nope, 3 is *it* for me, I'm afraid.

But, [deleted], why does snake keeping have to taste like pringles!!

You should "accidentally" pair your fire and super pastel to make some "accidental" fireflies.;)

If he knew how much "designer" GTP can sell for he'd probably want me to get more...

I would breed them "accidentally" if I didn't already see so many people on craig's getting rid of their snakes... kills me. So maybe I shouldn't add to the snake over population. Now... if they only laid 1 or 2 eggs then ....

I don't think all the snakes on craigslist are fireflies or really any morphs for that matter. There are a ton of normals out there though.

I said I'd stop at 2...and I now have 13, with a new 12-slot rack on order for my breeder females and holdbacks! It never ends, might as well embrace it, lol! As to the pastel and fire cross, absolutely! My last purchase was a 2012 firefly girl; great looking morph, those and a great combo animal to have if you decide to breed and sell to offset your addiction. :D

uh.... I'm sorry... but do firefly's really go for $1k ???!!! Seems strange.

I just did a quick google search and that's the first price I came up with. Maybe it's just someone missing a few screws or something.

True, they are mostly normals.. but there was this beautiful albino the other day that didn't last the day. Someone snatched that thing up in 5 minutes. If I ever get another ball, it would be an albino.

i also said i wasnt going to get more snakes after i got my 2nd but i couldnt let materials go to waste so i had no choice but to build a 5 tub rack lol. just 1 more to fill it up;)

I begged & pleaded with my wife to let me have 1, then asked for 3. Hey can't stop @ just one right! Well I tossed in a few here & there & now have 6. I was told if I brought one more home all would go. So I got me a 6 tub ap rack & I am happy. Maybe down the road I will up that to a lot more! Hey, babies I produced were never in the equation :)

We have 6 in a rack and our latest addition is a boa. They are worse than potatoes chips.

Oh god ! You people are all enablers. Surely I should be able to find a pet addicts anonymous around here somewhere. I have to stop after the GTP because my husband would seriously have me committed. No joke. He would probably move out or file for divorce, take the kids or hang himself. He probably feels like he's lost his man card to my whims. I have acquired 6 pets in the last two years and he didn't want any of them ! The only way I think he is halfway OK with the GTP is because I have sworn this will be my last pet. 10 is my limit. (at least that's what I've been telling him)

I understand how you feel with the addiction and having a spouse that's mildly supportive. So stop at three and don't look at another snake again. There's the support you requested :P. Now, get a small rack system and buy till it fills up, that's my expert advise, lol. I started with one because of my wife. Now 5 months later we have 21 total. Lol. I'll be big brother ;)

I went from 1, only wanting one, and then my "max" 8....to the reality that I now own 17 snakes, 3 leopard geckos, 11 tarantulas, a red foot tortoise and a pet rat in one year. :rolleyes:

All were my idea except for the cat. My hubby had 2 cats when we started dating years ago and he was a "cat only" sort of person. When we got married and I asked for a puppy, his first thought was, "oh god no not a dog..." Now we have 6. And one is his. And he trained her himself and runs agility with her.

So I got back into reptiles a couple of years ago and asked for a snake. Cause I'd always wanted a ball python. And his first thought was, "why on earth do you want a snake..." Now we have 5. And he's talking about picking one out for himself when we go to Tinley Park in the fall. And he wants me to breed my boas.

So, see, they DO change...... :P:D

Well I *Was* going to get a 24x24x36 enclosure for the *one* GTP, but now I think I should get a 24x24x48 with another herpstat2 JUST IN CASE I get second GTP in the future. Then at least I won't need to buy more stuff, know what I mean ??

Hahahaha, oh boy. I think the best part is that animal people of EVERY type do this, especially on forums. When I first got into guppies, I was "just going to have one display tank".... 6 months later my partner at the time and I had a wall full of breeding tanks and I'd gotten a job at the local aquarium store to pay for the addiction (it was start working there or they were going to charge me rent, I was there so often!). I'm back down to 2 display tanks, years later. But I also just brought home snake #3 (and my one foster, who I had helped raise years ago, for a total of 4), and I haven't even had my first snake for a year!

If you think forums and shows are bad, try actually being friends with a breeder - the worst enablers ever! I never would have even considered an ATB, but my friend is going to have a litter of potential yellow/orange tigers coming up. I'm making plans already.

I'm so glad my current partner is tolerant, though not much of a pet person. Just smiles and gives me an eyeroll every time I start nerding out XD

a second herpstat *2* has been ordered. sigh.......

I feel your pain! I was doing great for three ALMOST FOUR years... and then my cousin started talking about getting ONE BP of her own. Her husband was saying heck no (he was deathly afraid of any snake and would kill one on site)... and then they got the first one... three months later they were up to nine and now are expecting their first clutch in July (Guess where my second BP baby is coming from :P) My boyfriend is TOTALLY not a pet person at all and he said he would only tolerate the ONE snake. Well after holding her and playing with her for an hour he was shooting pictures of her on his steering wheel while he drove and he was giggling like it was christmas when she snuggled up to him... he's now looking forward to the second baby and I'm slowly... ever so slowly trying to convince him to let me have ONE pitt bull puppy in a few years. ;) So don't give up, even the toughest ones eventually crack under cuteness.

Sheesh, you people are crazy! I better run, while I have the chance!! lol
