Moving From One Sam To Another...

Well, it's official. I just accepted a position with Member Services at Sam's Club, and will be starting the Wal-Mart Manager in Training Program within the next few months. So, I go from working for Uncle Sam to working for Big Sam.

Several things came together for this to work in my favor; Wal-Mart has a push on to hire retired military, there are some great opportunities for advancement in the company, and for this area, the money isn't bad at all.

Still, I have this strange feeling that I just got recruited by Darth Vader and have now joined the Empire...

Thank you! The whole time I was in the Wal-Mart HR office yesterday I kept thinking about the South Park Wal-Mart episode...I resisted the urge to make any jokes about the "Heart of Wal-Mart."

Well Darth Maul was the coolest star wars character and he was a valued member of the dark side...

Congrats on getting the job! Now the fun part really begins; dealing with all the people that go into Wally World! And working on the HR chick ;)

Gratz and welcome to the company! I've worked for Wal-Mart for 7 years and for as much as I complain sometimes, it is a great company to work for overall. I will warn you that you will be abused as a manager but if you can get to the co or store manager levels, it pays amazing dividends. As for the girl, as long as she isn't your direct manager, you should be alright, but with her being HR, it could cause issues. If it begins to go somewhere, you can always switch stores. Luckily, the store you train in is never the store you stay in unless Sam's changed their rules on that.
