Little worried.. please help

hey everyone again, Xena, my 9 month old bp is just going into a shed again, however when i changed her water dish for fresh water a moment ago i noticed this..on her head, which wasnt there yesterday. any ideas!? http://i47.tinypic.com/2n7p4qq.jpg

looks like a classic bad shed. What is the cage humidity?

What's your humidity like in her cage and what are you measuring it with? Looks like she's missing some scales from pulling the shed off. What are you housing her in (tank/terrarium? tub? other?). I'd say she needs the humidity bumped to 70-80% or so and/or a soaking bath and a run through a washcloth to help her get that shed off before it pulls more scales off. I have a rescue, Rancid, who has several patches where his previous owner let the humidity dip waaaay too low and the snake ended up losing scales and now has scars in several places. Not trying to scare you, but if I were you I'd get on fixing the problem ASAP.

you need to get the humidity up to at least 60%, but I would strongly suggest 70%-80%

I would hold of soaking for about 24 hours, let her get as much off by herself that she can. Soaking should be a last resort, as it very easily can do more harm than good.

shes always had a little trouble spot on that spot of her head. most sheds it stays 55-65% and all but twice they wernt 1 piece sheds. ive had her since a hatch, quite a bit of sheds since then. she does great shedding usually.

least she got both eye caps off thats what worries me the most :banana:

What are you using to measure humidity? HOw long have you had that hygrometer? There shouldn't be that big of a difference in her ability to shed from 55% to 65% (splitting hairs, in my opinion), but it could be much lower if your hygrometer is bad.

Feel the need to ask if your uth is regulated by a thermostat?

using a gauge hygro, and 2 digital temps, one around a year old, other around 2 months. between the 3, there all 1% within each other

But is the UTH being regulated with a thermostat? (not a thermometer)

it is not, i have a slightly different setup im trying. have a adjustable overhead lamp, used to maintained day temps, the repti moss helps maintain humidity at 65-75% and i have a mini uth a few inches under her hide, i have checked with an inferad thermometer, it gets no hotter then 80-83 or so with her bedding

but what if she digs down and touches the bottom of the tank? how hot does that get?

i tested that well, 85-88* or so if the bedding was completely removed. ive never seen it try to burrow or dig down anywere.
