Best deal you have ever gotten on a ball python
Since there is the other thread about the most people have spent on a ball python I was wondering what the least someone has paid for one. Obviously quality varies with price however thought it would be fun.
This is a male Pastel who is about 289 gms. He was thrown in with an Orange Belly purchase for $35.

This is a male Pinstripe who is about 150 gms. He was added to a Spider purchase for $100 and I am completely in love with him.

She is super amazing and really friendly!

I have gotten a few steals, but I also do not talk about most of them so the breeder does not get hit up to give the deal to someone else. Discretion will get you a long way in getting deals.

Free with a rack I bought lol male mojave

Sweet, if they would have thrown in a sandwich, it would have been the trifecta!

I bought one group deal a year ago at an AWESOME price at $600 for
1.0 pastel 400g, 0.1 mojave 400g, and 0.1 spider 500g
all 2010s, all great quality snakes, expect the pastel, hes a somewhat poor example of the morph.

I didn't mean to step on toes. I wasn't trying to ask where the snake was from just the deals for them. Obviously I wouldn't want anyone to disclose anything that would hurt them in the long run. I understand discretion is key, however I have never posted anywhere where I have purchased any of my snakes and never would without permission from any breeder that I have dealt with.
Sorry if it was implied that I was interested in where the snake was purchased or if it was tacky of me to start this topic.

Nah, not tacky. There are deals out there that can be discussed. Just not all of them :D

Re: Best deal you have ever gotten on a ball python
Maybe it's the seller who's actually getting the deal when they're able to "sweeten the pot" with a low priced, common, single gene male.

His pupils are vertical, and he has a line of matching color that goes horizontal on both eyes. :D

Is there a way to recreate this? i seen it on a ball once and fell in love. Havent really seen it anywhere else untill now, not that i looked that far into it or anything.
-
I think it's semi common with boas...my female motley has like a spot in the middle of her slit pupils, so they always look dilated lol. His are perfect crosses though...I'll let you know in a few years when I breed them ;)
-
- spent $130 on an adult GTP, traded it 2 days later for a 1000 gram female lesser.
- Traded our as of yet currently unproven hatchling with big potential, for a 700-800 gram graziani cinnamon het pied female and a proven breeder 600(or so) gram male clown, as well as an agreement to breed him back to mom next season.

Not exactly as defined as a boa, and I wish I could get a better picture of this guy, as his pupil looks like a + (he does NOT stop for the camera and is a big boy)... but here is a photo showing something similar in a ball (specifically, in a pastel, where the pupils are lighter in general):

Re: Best deal you have ever gotten on a ball python
I got a 147 gram male mojave for a dollar a gram. lol jokingly offered a buck a gram and the guy threw him on the scales.
I was given a male het albino. (had purchased one the month before and lost him in the house fire) The breeder heard about it and gave me a replacement.
but my fav has to be my normal male Karl. $15 he is from a het clown to het clown pairing so guess that makes him 50% pos het clown.
here he is:

I'm still shopping around for my first BP so this is pretty interesting. I'm naturally pretty suspicious of 'deals' but are they fairly common among breeders? Should taking chances on deals be reserved for in-person purchases from experienced owners?

My best deal was on my Fire female. She was a rescue for the person who had her. I was really hung up on her, and we talked for a while about her and snakes in general and stupid people who have no business owning snakes.
After a bit he asked if I wanted her. I said yes, but told him I could not meet his price. He asked me to make an offer. I told him I wasn't going to offend him like that, because my funds and his price were from different sides of town. We talked a bit more, and he kept asking me to make an offer, and I kept refusing. I knew darn well he'd have no trouble moving her for the price he wanted, so I wasn't about to step on his sales opportunity.
After about 15 minutes of arguing in a friendly way, I finally broke down and told him how much I had, knowing that was the only way he'd leave it alone. Once he heard how low my funds were, he'd realize I wasn't kidding. Could have knocked me on my butt when he told me that is what he invested in her to rescue her, and as long as she went to a good home, that was all he cared about. I still had trouble believing he was serious, I knew he could make more on her. Quite a bit more in fact. But he was completely serious, and for a price I still have trouble believing, she became mine.
She was pitifully thin, and it took a long time of small frequent feedings to get her up to where she belonged. She's still thinner than she should be, but at least she doesn't look like a snakeskin belt anymore.

A buck a gram is super awesome! That would be a fun way to sell a snake for sure.

Gale, that was an incredibly sweet story that I enjoyed greatly <3

$125 for my female butter. $25 for a female 2500 gram 12 yr old virgin ball python. I swear she's axanthic but I sure as heck don't have the money to prove her out. And $100 for my gtp :D
-
Neat thread. :gj:
0.1 mojave (1,200g)
1.0 lesser (930g)
1.0 pastel (1,500g)
All three are excellent examples of their morphs and were very well taken care of. I've posted pics of them a few times. We also got all their tubs (which had custom locks and everything), heat mats, BAH-1000 thermostat, a few other supplies and a grocery bag overflowing with frozen feeders.
Everything for $500.
Yeah, I dropped what I was doing right then and there and made the hour long trip up to Akron to get them. Another local breeder (shady guy at best, a real jerk) flipped out on me because I beat him to the punch. He had made no arrangements to pick them up, but he still holds me personally responsible because he missed out. Ya snooze ya lose, buddy!
Another good deal was our female pinstripe. She was 300g+ when we got her. Maybe not the deal of the century like the one above, but I think $180 for her was more than fair for her size and quality.
-
$140 for a lesser hatchling,
$250 for a 1.1 pair of pastels het. axanthics
$125 for a 500gram pinstripe male
$100 for a 400gram black pastel female
$500 for a 2200 gram proven spider female.
I only paid market prices for my first ball python, and it was an OG HYPO. haha
-
Grabbed a male bumblebee off craigslist that I'm bringing back to good weight on craigslist.
-
I think 325 shipped for my pewter was a pretty swell deal!
-
I got, 3 years ago, male lesser $275 and male spider $200. 2 years ago I got a female cinny for $125. And this year I got offered a male sub adult sterling pastel for $500, and I've been kicking myself for not having the money cause some one else grabbed him.
-
Re: Best deal you have ever gotten on a ball python
Earlier this year I picked up 0.1 Pastel 1000g, 0.1 Yellowbelly 600g, 0.1 Proven Normal 1500g for $500. The pastel & yellowbelly are just flat out awesome and the normal has a nice pattern as well.
It's not as good a deal as Free...but I'll take it!
