Normal or not?

I got a 1 yr old male ball python and I was told he is a normal. They said he is pretty cool because he is a very light normal. I named him G.E.C.K, any guess what his name is referenced to?

Anyways, what do you think he is?

I think he might benefit from another hide in there so he can have one on the cool side, and one on the warm side. It's best if they don't have to chose between feeling secure and thermoregulating to the right temp.

The blue bowl is kinda like another hide but I could add something. Just got him yesterday so what I had in my room, was it. Thank you, I'll look at the link.

The water dish is the dog dish with the handle on the side? I have them all my snakes bins/tanks :) It's a hide and water dish in one. Best part is I found mine at a dollar store.
You could always add more plants to get some more cover and color. Another dollar store find, or even craft stores.

Yes it is :) I know it won't fully work for long as he gets bigger but I'll add some more plants and another hide. I'll update this post with another tank picture sometime tomorrow? Not sure. Thanks

I see three main downsides to the water bowl hide:

1) Once the snake gets a little larger, it can't ball up in the hide. It has to wrap around the bowl part.

2) The hide temp is greatly effected by the temp of the water in the bowl.

3) A larger snake will spill water or tip the bowl over when getting in and out of the hide.

I know this. It isn't bigger and when it gets bigger is when the things in the tank get bigger and change....

Guys, what are some things you use for water?

From those pictures he looks great. I love that pattern. You should take a picture of him after each shed. Its kind of neat to watch the growth and change in color as they age:)

The majority of my snakes are corns(mostly yearlings) so the water dishes work great for them, for now lol! Of course corns dont need to be as warm as bp's. I never considerd the temp of the water affecting the hides temp. I should measure the temps inside them :)
I know my bps will need something else when they get bigger, both are late 2011's.

Ya I use to have 6 corns. So that hide wasn't all to much a problem, even for a big one.

Slim, in that link. Something about black construction paper.... Would you put this on the back of the tank or on the inside of the back of the tank?

Back when I still had tanks, I used the construction paper on the outside of the tank, and I woud cover the back and both sides. I used small pieces of clear double sided tape to secure it to the outside of the glass.

It gives your BP a greater sense of security, and can really come in handy if you have a picky eater.

Out of curiosity, is there any live plant that would do well in a BP enclosure that would also aid the humidity?

And...whats an ideal water container?

I do remember a thread from a few months back that talked about which live plants are safe. I'm sure you can find it with a search.

I think the general tone of that thread was that BP's are pretty rough on live plants.
