Another "Is she ovulating" thread...

Yes, I know these threads get old... but it's so hard to tell sometimes! :oops:

I think my big girl Mona (proven breeder / normal) was ovulating yesterday, since it looked like she'd eaten a HUGE rat - and she hasn't eaten in over a month, so I know it's not just "food swell." She was also sitting outside of her hide for the first time in months, and I forgot to record her last shed, but I think it was about 5-6 weeks ago. Whaddya think, should I start the egg countdown?

P.S. She was paired just a few times over the season, with my spider and pastel boys - only observed locks with the spider.

First off... GORGEOUS girl!

I don't think she's ovulating in these pics. It looks like a build to me. She should have the "tail suck" when she actually ovulates, which doesn't appear as if it will be much longer.

I believe they tend to stretch when ovy not coil around but idk :)

And yeah, I think you're right... I forgot about the whole building stage, and that does seem to be what's happening now. Check out this pic I just took of her - she's gotten even bigger! :O

I forgot to record her last shed, but I think it was about 4-6 weeks ago. Btw, she's gotten even bigger since that last pic... as Jenn said, poor girl! :o

So, approximately when should I expect ovulation?

That looks like an ov to me. Huge swell, plus the tail suck. I'd say see if she sheds in about 15-20 days, and then you can figure about 30 days after shed, you should have eggs. ;)

Yep, I do believe that pic from this morning is her Ovy. If it is, she should shed in roughly 3 weeks. If she does shed out anytime within the next 3 weeks or so, start the countdown.

Females typically shed 14 days or so after ovy, congrats she's definitely looking like she's ovulating in the last pic :gj:

Thank you, and I have to agree! She gave me 6 beautiful babies in 2010, but unfortunately the odds were terrible with 5 normals & 1 Mojave... hoping for better odds with this clutch. :cool:

I'm also agreeing with the recent responses, and think this IS her ovy... when I checked on her later in the day, she was stretched out and even bigger. I swear, she looked like she was about to burst! I'll wait to see if she sheds in the next 2-3 weeks, and start the countdown then.

Thanks! You know what's weird? I was calculating the babies' "due date" (hatching), and it's exactly when her last clutch hatched... I calculate around August 22nd, the same date to the day as when that last clutch started emerging. Has anyone else noticed their girls going on/around the same dates every year? Just a thought.
